hi guys. yet another newbie schmuck trying to get this game to work. i have an athlon 2000+ processor 80gb hd 512mb memory a radeon ati 128mb video card and i'm struggling to get this game to start. firstly if its on a dvd disc is there only one disc in the box. my wife bought it for me as a pre owned copy and i was just wondering. secondly even though i have disabled everything running in the background and got rid of my emulators it takes about thirteen minutes to install. is this normal? i have also updated all my drivers for everything i can imagine. so in my book i'm fully ready to play the game. but here is my problem. when i try to install the 1.3 patch i get the message 'set up has detected that you have already uninstalled a patched version of the game. in order to install this patch it must be first removed. after the patch is removed please reinstall it by starting the patch set up again'. when i try this however i get the message 'error 1316 a network error has occured while attempting to read from the file c:/windows\installer\far cry(patch 1.3)msi consult windows installer help msi.chm or msdn for more information'. what does all this mean guys. all i want to do is play this game. by the way i'm getting more memory tomorrow. so any help would be most appreciated.

Since you're new to the forums, I'll give you the quick answer; but next time just browse the next couple pages...ur question and answer was already posted several times. Use http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301 that tool to uninstall any previous patches.

thanks very much for the info DocSEAL. i've been able to get a much better install of both the game and the 1.3 patch. in fact i saw screens that i hadn't previously. however the game still refuses to run. the first splash screen comes up with the male and female characters on but after about thirty or so seconds i get the message 'far cry has encountered a problem and needs to close'. so what i'll do now is buy some more memory and see if that sorts it out. if not i'll have to return to the forums for some more help. i've had this game since the 16th of november (my birthday) last year and this is the nearest i've come to getting it going.

you should still be able to run the game with your current settings, I would probably uninstall and reinstall the game, then repatch it, uodate direct x if you havent already, and maybe start the game at a lower resolution and detail settings if you havent already tried that, in the "configure farcry" in the folder it installs it to.

thanks Javelin304. i've got directx 9.0c already on my pc but most of my options are set for auto select best options. is this wrong? i'll try and do like you suggest and uninstall/reinstall the game and patch. if it still won't work. i'll be back. lol.
