Venom, I would believe this thread is up to date.

I'm sure up to the last minute, the developpers can always throw in a new hero or two.

I believe the importance for the developpers here is more what makes those heroes so special so they can recreate new ones in the image of the old ones.

Or maybe descendants...

OK, so the thread in heroworld started.

I bet on Crag Hack, Sandro, Gelu and Solmyr. They are just too hot, so many people in heroworld forum use them as their avatar.

Just a guess, we'll see.

Crag Hack takes the 3rd place after the struggle with Mayweda, however the votes were almost equal so I can make a conclusion that they are both equaly liked.

As long as there are no specialities I don't care which hero returns.

I played Heroesd 4 quite a lot (although I prefer H3) and it made no difference to me in H4 whether I could choose my beloved Mephala or hero xyz.
Sometimes I chose the one with the best pictures, but most of the timees all of them were ugly anyway, so I didn't care.

If there's no speciality I don't need hero names. Just call them Knight A, Knight B,..., Heretic A, Hertic B... and so on with the option to rename them.

However, that's just my personal meaning.

This once again confirms what I already thought.

When keeping a special hero for the sake of nostalgia, you should keep a hero who was liked because of legacy or nostalgia.

If 3DO had made an ugly hero with no background story and a "smite everything" special ability, he would still be a popular hero. However, I assume Heroes 5 is not going to be giving the HOMM3 Heroes the same abilities, so this argument is pretty worthless.

For this reason, I'd still say Sandro, just because of the legacy that he left (although I wouldn't mind seeing Adelaide return as well).

I opened a thread in my community asking for favourite heroes some days ago. I have counted the number of times each heroe is mentioned. These are the results.

The leading group

Sandro 9
Solmyr 6
Crag Hack 4

Spanish players don't seem to be very different from the rest. Mister Sandro, Solmyr and Crag Hack are winners everywhere.

After them we have this good old warlock:

With two votes, heroes from H3:

With the same number of votes, comming from H2:
Archibald Ironfist 2

And now some comments. People seems to like H3 heroes for their speciality. Solmyr, Deemer, Tazar, Alamar or Jeddite are good examples. But people like some heroes too due to their charismathic personality and involvement in the games story. Sandro, Crag Hack, Gem, Archibald or Gelu are good examples.

When people mention H2 heroes it's ussually due to their portrait. Zam, Agar, Sarakin, Halon, Vatwana or Jezebel are perfect examples. This could be a good hint too about how people would like portraits for new heroes. Fantasy like portraits a la H2 seems to be the favourite ones .

i would so like Vidomina to return from heroes III! she was expert in necromancy and when i think of a necromancer lady she comes to mind first.

A fantastic display of necromancy good sir.

But I'll weigh in anyway, my favourite hero of all time is, gauldoth half dead from heroes of might and magic 4, incidentally also a necromancer. He had a very compelling story, and probably the most likeable necromancer.
