Thread: upset, i bought VEGAS movie studio+DVD :( | Forums

i kept hearing vegas this/vegas that, so i bought it finally....(movie studio +DVD)

to bad the 100 bux i spent on it isnt worth cr@p. windows movie maker is ALLLMOSST better, and for free.

all i wanted was a motion sketching utility...and thats not in it. its in the EXPENSIVE version (read HUNDREDS of dollars)of VEGAS..my costly mistake.didnt know there were different versions

is there a motion sketching plug in or something i can use for it?

the downside is that if i use DIVX with Microsoft movie maker, clips come out perfect.
if i use VEGAS with DIVX..look like sheeee -ite. wonder why the same compression being used on two different progs carry different results.. any body have experience with the cr
    2p version of vegas?

    S! GAU-8

GAU I'm not sure about Movie Studio and what it can and cannot do.

From what I have read so far...the answer is no...

Maybe if you post at the Sony's Forum link below, someone might be able to help you...

    S!

    OUCH!!!!

    You got the wrong Vegas.

What people are talking about is VEGAS 6.0, not Movie Studio +DVD.

Here is the page, its the one in the orange box.

    Deepo,

i do all of my compression thru virtual dub actually...then after i let windows MM do its thing.

so you are correct actually, i havent truly compressed movie maker and divx together. well not the windows version.

    Blackace,

yep i got the wrong version. due to my lack of checking deeper into whats offered by VEGAS, and that the way it was on the shelf "looked" like it was 6.0...

ill play with it a bit more, but i have a feeling im going to sell it here real soon..

    hi gau,

from whatever application you may start compressing a video-stream: the quality of a finally edited output depend should depend only on the used codec's capabilities.
or in other words: editing-software shouldn't filter or change any footage when the editor doesn't want to...
i don't know about 'vegas movie studio', but 'windows movie maker' lacks exactly in this regard (it offers only few choices to the editor, for example it allows only proprietary format). that is, on the other hand, one of the most valuable advantages of 'virtualdub' (which is no editing-software, but great for postproduction and compressing): nothing is done without having the user chosen it.

one thing for pro-nle-software is, that they are optimized for tv- or dv-products, so they have some problems with mpeg4-codecs (like 'divx'). this is in some regards even necessary (regarding effects and realtime-editing).
footage, which you want to edit, should not (!) be precompressed with 'divx' or similar. besides the negative effect of information lost (and therefore picture-information!) before starting to edit, pro- and semipro-applications ('vegas', 'avid', 'premiere') deliver artifacts or even crash.
since i don't know about the capabilities or use of 'vegas movie studio', i can't tell if it allows custom settings, but since 'wmm' only delivers 'wmv'-files (which 'vms' probably won't due to higher cost of license), you can't compare these two. it maybe that settings choice is restricted for 'vms' (since it seems to target for home-dvd-production), for both applications values: don't feed them with precompressed ('divx' or sim) files.

i thought the same aas well, Deepo.

playing around at first i thought well, ill use the same clips, make a movie with WMM, and with VEGAS MM..and see iof there is a noticable difference between the 2 with DivX.

yeah the VEGAS version came out blocky..like the earrrrrly days of il2 filming. but im sure its a setting somewhere.

I just picked up an unused, fully registerable copy of Adobe Premiere Pro 7 along with a "Premiere Pro tricks and techniques" instructional DVD on Ebay for $100. I know it's not the latest version, but I've played around with it and it's pretty darn cool. The DVD gets you going with lots of editing tips and it explains the various tools.

I thought about getting the $100 version of Vegas but I tried the free demo available at the Vegas site and it pissed me off, lol.
