    Greetings,

My friends, sorry for the delays, however I have been in different asignments in Europe, so it has been hard to find time to work on UQMG. Nevertheless, here are the latest developments of UQMG (UberQuick Mission Generator) for IL-2 Forgotten Battles.

First, pictures, with short description first, then the main updates explained:
1 - UQMG Mission Development Kit Sample
2 - New Aircraft Definition Tool with convenient features and attack behavior
3 - UQMG GUI update, notice "Manage FPS/Scene" section additions
4 - Interesting waypoints and front defined in briefing
5 - Neat scenery you'll find in new UQMG missions
6 - Same as above, looks like an airport terminal
7 - "Channel" map has a Battle of Britain feel... look at rocks
8 - "Channel" map has a lot going on, including feroucious naval battle
    9 - Same as number 5
10 - Just a fun shot with a BoB feel
    11 - Note BoB-channel-like mountains in background

    * Announcing the UQMG MDK (Mission Development Kit). This will be a series of spreadsheets and documents which will allow you to build your own UQMG mission templates. This is similar to thinking "Well, I wish that QMB mission took advantage of a different part of the map..." I will explain exactly how the UQMG engine works so that more advanced players can build their mission types. I have successfully finished a complex spreadsheet that makes life much easier. As you may know, the reason for the long release time is due to the fact it takes so long to build templates. These spreadsheets are cutting the template building time by at least 80%. Basically you cut and paste information from mission files into certain columns, and all the necessary information comes in the correct format so you can easily build a text file in the format UQMG understands. The spreadsheets will come in two formats: Microsoft Office Excell Spreadsheet (.xls) and Sun Systems Star Suite Spreadsheet (.sxc). The tools necessary for building templates with the MDK will be as follows:
    - IL-2 Forgotten Battles FMB
    - UQMG for Forgotten Battles
    - UQMG MDK
    - MS Excell 2000 or Sun Systems StarOffice 6.0 Suite
    - For Windows 98: MS Windows Notepad and MS Windows WordPad
    - For Windows XP: MS Windows Notepad

    * When you start UQMG for the first time, it gathers info about IL-2 FB directly from the Windows Registry, so you do not have to specify where it is installed. If for some reason that is not possible, UQMG will still allow you to point where IL-2 FB is.

    * Successfully Incorporated Integrated Scenery Into the Engine.
    - Where applicable, new building structures ("Objects" class from the FMB) are included. So for example, Seaplane bases may include control towers, buildings. Some towns may include Ship Dockyards which I built, plus other structures.
    - Battle Damage can be incorporated into the missions, such as building damage and bridge damage. I have not implemented any in the current templates, but the capability is there.
    - Front Markers can be incorporated into the missions, allowing the players to see their home area, as well as the enemy's area.

    * New feature: Players now can specify what kind of air combat and ground combat behavior per flight. In air combat you can specify air patrol or pinpoint interception. In ground attack you can specify no ground attack, non-specific ground attack, or pinpoint ground attack with a target. So for example, you can have flights that do no ground attack, and some that do. Some may intercept, some may not. This resulted from examining the behavior from aircraft to aircraft. For example, pinpoint ground attacks do not work for paratroopers or large level bombers. Also, some aircraft do not conduct ground attack unless you specify a particular target. This gives you more flexibility.

    * Successfully built rules for deploying searchlights.
    - Searchlights are only deployed if the mission occurs in a certain time-window from the evening through the early morning. This is yet another FPS saving feature. This time window is different based on whether the mission occurs in a Summer or a Winter Map.
    - Currently the only difference between the Searchlights and the Campfire Rules is the Campfires are also deployed during the day for inclement weather to assist on locating the runway or other locations.
    - There is a way to override these settings when building templates.

    * Findland Small Online map (Online Map 5) Air Combat template is 100% complete. This has lots of interesting things going on and plenty of targets of chance.
    * Channel Online Map (Online Map 3) Air Combat template is 100% complete. Same as above as far as features, but with a feroutious naval/ground battle happening, if you choose to have them there.
    * Smolensk Air Combat template is 100% complete (Because landing seaplanes in the Smolensk map is nearly impossible, seaplanes fly to the "end of the map", where the ground is smooth and they land there. It is not too realistic, but until Oleg's team makes either custom landing markers or make seaplane bases like in the large Finland Map, this is an alternative to seaplanes simply crashing into mountains or buildings.) This is based on the original QMB template, but with very neat features, including ground targets.
