Thread: Deleting Myst V demo custom video preferences? | Forums

  1. #1
    Dear folks,

Downloaded the Myst V demo to see if it would play on my video card (a Matrox P650). Contrary to official doctrine, it *does* seem to work, albeit the frame rate is a tad sluggish. But...

Then I decided to be "clever" and see how fast/slow it would run if I kicked all the video quality options settings up to max. Well, I broke something-- came up with video settings that would NOT play nicely with my card-- the game hangs right after loading with a black screen and no useful control (esc aborts the just fine, tho').

So, my problem is that I'd like to reset the video options to their default values, but I can't access the options menu from within the game, and I don't know where Myst V demo stores that stuff. Didn't see any obvious .ini files or the like; I suspect a registry entry, but I don't know which one.

So, can anyone here point me at the right files?

    Thanks!

    Ctein

(P.S., Yes I've asked this question of tech support, but so far they're obsessed with following their script for diagnosing video problems, which ain't what's up with me.)

    Try the following:
    -- a. Browse to \Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V Demo\init or \Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Myst V Demo\init.
    -- b. Rename audio.ini and graphics.ini to something like OLD_audio.ini and OLD_graphics.ini.
-- c. Start the Demo. These files will be re-written in their default states.

    Dear Heimdall,

Heh! I was just starting to post a message saying exactly this when I got yours. Figured it out just an hour ago. Yes, it works fine. Game functionality's restored.

Thank you very much, by the way. You're doing MUCH better than ubi's tech support. Three times now they've refused to give me the straight answers-- they keep wanting to investigate my system configuration instead. Sigh...

For them what cares, the problem was screen resolution-- settings above 768x1024 caused the hang. Dunno why, doesn't matter. That's good enough for me.
