Ok.....I consider myself have to a few miles under my belt with this game....I love it....

    but I have a problem...

since I've been hunting I have knocked down rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, weasles, crows, snapping turtles, goldfish, and other assorted varmits...

I can't find, or can't catch any bears, cougars, or wolves. (Harbors don't count)....

Gimme a break fellas...point me to a good sea lane for bears/cougars/and wolves. I'm getting tired of eating rabbit.

Any man who can catch goldfish shouldn't be embarrased about not being able to bag simple things like wolves and cougars.

I myself am still working on minnows... Darned buggers are so bloody slippery...

    Depends on the year.

Truk is their "Pearl Harbor" until it is isolated and beaten to a pulp.

    Palau...

Late in the war the warships liked to stay near the oil fields for easy fueling (they burned unprocessed crude from Borneo, it was that clean).

If I'm in the mood for a real fight I head to where the historical fights were. Midway in early June '42 or Coral Sea in late April early May. In late October '44 all the fun is in the Philippines. I beat the tar out of Kurita's task force in the Sibuyan Sea just before he went through the San Bernadino Straight and bushwhacked him again when he came back through. There is also Ozawa's carrier force just ENE of Luzon and the battleships Sprague hammered in Siargao straight. Get out the WWII history book and look for the action.

I have also run into carriers and a few BBs South of the Bungo Straight.

They are out there Mister Lane, go get'em.

Bag one and I'll fix that burger with carmelized onions and mushrooms saute'd in butter.

Assuming you mean TM, you are welcome to have a crack at Truk. It's not like the stock shooting galleries.

I have enjoyed hunting in TM 1.5.. First patrol out of Manila 1941 I found the Borneo invasion fleet and sunk a heavy cruiser and 1 5k passenger carrier and 1 2k passenger carrier for ~28k tons. Next patrol out of Java all I found was one stinking freighter! At least the new crew members got their combat pins. It is quite embarassing showing up to end a patrol* with 8 fish left.
My third and current patrol, also out of Java, I have sunk 4 sampans and have yet to find any of the warships reported to be in the Java sea!

*I would have rearmed and refueled but I had taken a bomb hit and didn't want to risk hidden damage knowing I would have to end this patrol in Freemantle due to Java's pending collapse.

If you start on Dec 08, 1941 and want a sure TF, wait till Dec 16th when you get word that Borneo has been invaded then begin patrolling down the NE shore near the N airbase, where the RL oil fields were located. The invasion TF will come across from Indochina (I have met them half way before around the 16th). They will arrive on station approx. 10 miles seaward of the northern most small island the evening of the 20th and morning of the 21st. They will remain there for several days.
From my various counts, the TF will consist of 4-6 heavy cruisers, 6-8 small passenger carriers, 1-2 5k large passenger carriers, 3-5 destroyers.

An interesting note about the Borneo TF. If you watch long enough you can see some pretty neat fire fights between the escorts/cruisers and the land based allied bombers. I have watched them sink 2 heavy cruisers. (not historically accurate, but fun to watch)
