Thread: HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Silent Hunter III! | Forums

  1. #1
March 18th, 2005 - Silent Hunter III was released... a day that has affected our lives ever since!

    <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">"HAPPY BIRTHDAY SILENT HUNTER III!"</span>

    (OK, we're 5 days late... )

When I think what it cost me to purchase SH3, the number of hours of enjoyment I've had - and continue to have - from this one landmark game is, well... immeasurable!

Plus all the time spent on reading related books, watching documentaries, and upgrading my PC to get even more from the game...

...And, most important of all, spending time here in the community. Despite the relatively old age of our beloved game, this community is still a lively, interesting, entertaining, and generally damn good place to be

Thank you to anyone who has ever contributed to the community, the game and our quest for immersion in Silent Hunter III

I still remember this fateful day quite cleary.

Or shall i say "fateful morning" ? The postman rang me out of bed .. at 7 o'clock ! ON A FREE FRIDAY !

At 7:30 i was installing the game

    Great post VG!

I think this thread might evolve in to a 'Tribute' thread like those TV shows you see, like 'This Is Your Life' where 'celebrities' talk about the first time they met the person in question!

For me, I had played SH1 and 2. I was at home recuperating from a very near fatal asthma attack and I started playing SH3. 30+ books and films, plus (somehow!) a Moderator's 'Badge' later, it remains without doubt my favourite game.

I am very proud to be part of this fantastic forum community. I have learnt so much and made new friends, some that go beyond the realms of the game and forum, and that will be around for years to come I hope.

    Happy Birthday SH3!

Of course, I was thinking it was about this time and from then on my life has changed dramatically - several uboat books, a uboat vacation, two models and shed loads of hours playing this game later and yet it really isn't showing it's age at all, mind you a few important mods here and there have helped keep the heart beating too

Happy 3rd Birthday Silent Hunter III

I remember when I got SHIII. It was May of the year it was released. I was a we lad of only 15(well Im still we lad ) and I was browsing the shelvf of the PC game isle in my local Best Buy, and I saw SHIII on the shelf. I had read one U-Boat book at the time and it seemed interisting. Now 3 years later I have made it into the 100K club, made dosens SP and MP missions (many of which I have had the honor of haveing them added to GWX 2.0), and I have met and made many good friends both here and In my Flotilla. I now also have a shelf full of U-boat and Sub Pac books, although I keep re-reading them because I slack on expanding my libeary.

Happy Birthday SHIII! 3 Cheeers! Hip Hip, Hoorra!

A joyus day indeed. I'd been looking for a replacement for "Aces of the Deep" for years. Found SH1 and loved it, tried SH2 and found it so buggy and shoddy that I gave up on subsim's altogether and spent my time playing "Fighting Steel".

Wandered into these forums and decided to give SH3 a try. I'm so glad I did. I'm loving it. Will be posting pics of my latest audacity/atrocity on the high seas in a few days now that I'm back prowling the briney...

Congrats to all responsible for a sim well done. You can read my review of this game on Gamespot.com.

SH3 just won't die. With all the projects still underway, and some just released, I just don't see an end in sight.

As Elvis would say, "Viva SH3" , and Happy Birthday

I love u-boat before met this game. When my brother told me there was actually a subsim game (used to play strategy games, RPG, action games, board games; never sub-sim!), I bought the game and fall in love for the first time! The longest period that I addicted to a game before was half year, but I have been plaing this great game for almost 3 years, and still playing almost every couple days, if not everyday. This is not just a game to me anymore, but a must of my daily life!

And you guys, all the modders, all of you keep SHIII fresh and exciting! The half reasons (or should I say more than half ) why this game is so success is because of your dedication and dedicate!

Thank you, UBI! and thank you, all you ppl who love this game and make this game so legendary!
