I hope the Ubi developers were given time enough to research these boats properly.
I'm already getting myself in the mood by reading Run Silent Run Deep, by E Beach.

I also hope that they did there homework in reguards to U.S. torpedoes and ALL there problems.I for one will be rereading Silent Victory by Clay Blair,Jr. As they had not only running depth problems but also both the magnetic exploder and the contact exploder were defective. The depth isue was fixed by July 1942, but it wasn't till September 1943 that the contact exploder was "Fixed" and for the magnetic it was in 1944 (sorry can't seem to find the exact time frame, but will keep looking). Not only that but the H.O.R engine boats were a nothing but piles of junk.

Just a fyi, in 1942 Pacific Subs on about 350 war patrols had fired 1,442 torpedos to sink 180 confirmes ships- avg. 8 torpedoes per ship and in 1943 about same number of patrols fired 3,937 torpedoes to sink 335 ships- an avg. of 11.7 per sinking. 1943 saw more torpedoes fired at larger targets- carriers, tankers.

Here is a sample of how bad the Mark XIV was; (sorry may be a bit long). This is from a patrol report of Dan Daspit, skipper of "Tinosa" in July 1943; Code brakers gave Daspit a juicy target: "Tonan Maru III" a 19,000-ton whale factory (converted to a tanker), which he found on July 24. He made an end around and submerged ahead. When he got a good look at her through the periscope, he saw she was heavily loaded, makeing 13 knots.
Daspit attacked, firing four torpedoes. He believed that two hit; he saw large splashes of water forward. However the ship did not appear to be damaged. She turned away, leaving Daspit in a poor firing position. However he fired two more torpedoes. Both hit, one aft, causing smoke. Target stoped with port list, settling by the stern, but showed no signs of sinking.
Daspit studied his pray carefully. He could see her deck guns. Men running around, dropping small depth charges over the side to intimadate him. There was still no sign of an escort, surface or air.
Daspit recorded what happened next in his patrol report:
1009. Having observed target carefully and found no evidence of a sinking, approached and fired one torpedoe at starboard side. Hit, heard by sound to stop at same time I observed large splash. No apparent effect. Target had corrected list and was firing at periscope and at torpedoe wakes with machine guns and one inch [gun].
1011. Fired eighth torpedo. Hit. No apparent effect.
1014. Fired ninth torpedo. Hit. No apparent effect. Target firing at periscope, when exposed, and at wake when torpedoes were running.
1039. Fired tenth torpedo. Hit. No apparent effect.
1048. Fired eleventh torpedo. Hit. No effect. This torpedo hit well aft on the port side, made splash at the side of the ship and was then observed to have taken a right turn and to jump clear of the water about one hundred feet from the stern of the tanker. I find it hard to convince myself that I saw this.
1050. Fired twelth torpedo. Hit. No effect.
1100. Fired thirteenth torpedo. Hit. No effect. Circled again to fire at other side.
1122. Picked up high-speed screws.
1125. Sighted destroyer approaching from east....
1131. Fired fourteenth torpedo. Hit No effect.
11321/2. Fired fifteenth torpedo. Started deep. Destroyer range 1,000 yards. Torpedo heard to hit tanker and stop running by sound. Periscope had gone under by this time. No explosion. Had already decided to retain one torpedo for examination by base.

In all, Daspit fired eleven torpedoes under almost perfect conditions, and had been duds.

If they model SHIV based on history we should have one H@## of a time sinking anything and you for sure won't get any 100K patrols, at least till late 1944 and by then there werent that many targets left afloat!!

Ubi would be crucified for the "torpedo bug" in version 1.1 and inundated demands for a patch in update 1.2.

Patch 1.2 is released, all torps would be cruise missiles?

We could then all beseech the Modder's for a fix as well!

By this time the 100k club would have to explode into the second coming, in keeping with Boyle's Law.

Ubi would face a hostile takeover from a miltant Japanese software company that would re-release 1.1 as an expansion pack with spyware to report any unauthorised tampering of the game code.

The Gato Class was the Firts of 3 Classes grouped together in one class thingie Gato/Balao/Trench, For the reason of being structruly similar(sorta) although the Balao and Trench classes could Dive much deeper then the thiner-skined Gato,321ft(test depth). compared to the Balao's 425ft,although the Gato could make it to 425+/-ft. The Balao and Trench classes pushed the limets of the Depth Guage(600ft.)

So does anyone know if they are going to include the V-class, Tambor class and the S boats?
Also are they going to have the 4 comands; Pearl Harbor, Fremantle, Brisbane and Alaska?

Read the intervew. P,Tambor,Salmon, and Gato classes are/will be included.

Yep I read the interview and didn't find any mention of V-boats, S-boats, P-boats, and as these were what U.S. had to work with thru all of 1941, execpt for a few Tambor class boats (as of November of 1941 Pearl Harbor only had 10 fleet boats actually there). Manila didn't have any fleet boats, only 6-S boats, 7-P boats and 12 Salmons.
Maybe future interviews will put more lite on which boats will be in the game. Can only hope as I for one would love to comand the first Nautilus or even the Argonaut.
