Thread: Prop Pitch non existent?!? | Forums

    Just recently bought a copy of Il2 1946 I've been reading up on prop pitch and fuel mixture at airwarfare.com. However i didn't get far as whatever i set the customized controls to for prop pitch and mixture they won't work even the default ones wouldn't unfortunately. As i understand the prop pitch or angle of incidence should show up with changes in the pitch increments i.e 100% prop pitch 95% prop pitch etc to the left of the cockpit like the throttle percentage does however this does not happen. Rather confusing as it seems like it should work as prop pitch/fuel mixture are quite essential to playing the game as i understand and i can't think of any reason why it isn't working.

    btw a question, if i were to say deselect complex engine management in the difficulties section would the game handle the engine management for me im assuming it probably would and how well would it do that, obviously not a likable option but perhaps necessary for the moment.

    Some aircraft have automatic proppitch setting. Can't use it there.

    But on some, you can switch it off auto...

    (Some examples: 109, 110 and 190 have it automated. P51 has manual.)

    Switching CEM off will have the game handle it quite nicely. It does a good job, I think.

    if I'm not wrong, aircraft like the FW-190 and the BF-109 can have the prop pitch on manual, it is just necessary set it. unfortnetly, I don't know how. I just know these aircraft have the engine very sensitive, so, the pilot must have a good look on the RPM indicator. again, I don't know the RPM measures.

    I had complex engine management on the whole time it was simply as several of you said only some aircraft it has to be handled manually thats why i was confused thanks guys. Does anyone know if the Russian LaGG-31 has auto prop pitch control or is it simply an early aircraft without it. Are any of the aircraft in this game (im assuming they'd be the early ww2 aircraft) without prop pitch control? IF this ear of aircraft had no prop pitch im not sure im interested as i am currently flying the LaGG-31 original il2 campaign to ease me into the other campaigns when i get to them. BTW I read your nuggets guide to getting off the ground bearcat thanks i had never heard of those extra patches, your guide got me intruiged into learning the complex engine management from your link there. I have a question Where would i find a detailed general land landing tutorial and/or carrier for the il2 series also takeoff which i can do but im still unsure of proper configuration i.e for dealing with torque while speeding down the runway, then i can think of moving on to the combat air maneovers and formation flying* (VERY TRICKY for me*

    Phew sorry about this long novel of a post thought i'd ask most of the questions in one go.

    Set a key-press for tail-wheel lock and lock it when you are facing the right way along the runway. That will help considerably. I usually apply a few clicks of rudder trim in the appropriate direction before commencing to roll. You can determine the right direction to trim by noting the rotation of the prop on starting - trim right for a right-spinning prop, left for left.
    Don't grab a handful of throttle immediately but open it up slow & smoothly to about three-quarters, keeping the stick held slightly back from centre to keep the tail-wheel in contact and the plane straight.

    When the tail lifts you will need to apply rudder to keep the plane straight. Bring the throttle up to the desired level to lift you off cleanly. This doesn't necessarily need to be 110%! That works for carriers and for heavily laden fighter-bombers, but a standard Spitfire or Hurri will lift off at a whisker over 90% throttle once you have attained sufficient speed.

    I don't know if you know, but there's tutorial videos about landing and take off in the trainning section.

    with me the same thing, I normally take off with the plane pulling to the rigth side first, I can't make a straigth take off.

    I see real WWII aircraft taking off in videos and for me they take off staigth.

    in aircraft that have it, adjust the rudder trim is necessary for a more confortable take off in game terms.
