I am running XP Pro SP2 and exile wont install. i know that when i first bought the game it installed fine and i could play it on XP but now when i choose full install it hangs at 21% for about 3 minutes and then says "You are now exiting the Myst III: Exile installation. Some files may be left on your system. To install Myst III: Exile please run the CD again." and only has an OK button to click and then closes the install and on the typical install it hangs at about 81% and then says the same message. i have my anti virus off when i'm installing and no other programs are running. any help?

Just one thought that might help. Clean your system of all Exile related files. Sometimes left over files can cause a problem with installation. Try the uninstall that came with game then check your directory for any left over files. I found that sometimes left over files cause a problem. If you have saved games, back them up to another directory, then once you get a good install move them back to the proper place. It's worth a try.

Make sure your disc isn't scratched...

Are you installing Exile to a hard drive with at least 10 GB of free space?

    Suggestions:

    1. Do complete spyware and adware scans of your hard drive(s). I use and recommend:
    -- Spybot - Search & Destroy
    -- Ad-aware SE

    2. Clear your Internet Explorer caches:
-- a. Close all open applications.
-- b. Open a single Internet Explorer session.
-- c. Click on Tools > Internet Options.
-- d. Click on Delete Cookies > OK.
-- e. Click on Delete Files (check the 'Delete all offline content' box) > OK.
-- f. Click on Clear History > Yes.
-- g. Click on OK to exit.

    3. Use Windows Explorer to search your hard drive(s) for \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders, and delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use:
-- a. Click on Tools > Find > Files or Folders.
-- b. Type temp or tmp or temporary in the Named: box.
-- c. Click on the arrow at the right end of the Look in: box and then click on the disk drive to be searched.
-- d. Click on Find Now to start the search.
-- e. Click on the temp (or tmp or temporary) folders found to open them.
-- f. Delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use.
    -- g. Close Windows Explorer.

    4. Defragment your hard drive(s). Refer to How To Analyze and Defragment a Disk in Windows XP and How to Defragment Your Disk Drive Volumes in Windows XP. Executive Software's Diskeeper 9.0 is another option.

    5. Check your hard drive(s) for errors. Refer to How to Perform Disk Error Checking in Windows XP. Another option is Norton SystemWorks 2005's Disk Doctor.

Make certain you log into Windows with full Administrator privileges when you do any of the above. (And you should have done so when installing Exile.)

all of that is done (i do all that at least once a month and defragment at least every 1/2 year). the disk has scratches but from normal use not anything severe that wouldn't make it run. ive got two 80gb HDDs with plenty of room on both (tried installing on both but same thing) and i'm logged on as admin. i guess i'll just play myst masterpeice (will that work on XP?) if i can't find a way to fix this. thanks anyways guys

Try creating a new User Account and installing Exile on that account.
