It is now possible for white to start a rated game , then not move in order to frustrate a higher ranked player into resigning so that Black will not waste time staring at only a chess setup. WHEN BLACK RESIGNS, WHITES RATING WILL INCREASE.
This has nothing to do with playing chess.
DEVELOPERS: PLEASE impliment a time limit for white to move his first piece. It seems like such a small thing to do to make sure online gaming is enjoyable.

MAn poeple can be so mean nowadays, I know I don't have a high rating, but I would never do such a thing.

They sure can... if you leave any glitch that can be exploited in a game, you can be sure many people will abuse that. Some people really don't care about winning fairly. I sometimes play 3D shooters online, and many of them require you to install anti-cheat software due to the high number of people who used hacks and programs to make themselves invincible, for instance. It's ridiculous. I'd expect it to be less of a problem in an online chessgame, but sadly even the CM-community has its share of lamers, I guess.

Cheaters are everywhere, I was really involved / serious in the 3D shooter game arena, mainly quake (4+ years playing one online game). The people that are truly skilled are always accused of cheating. There was (still is) a constant battle between the people that break or exploit the game to create cheats and bots, to the people that create anti cheat software. The constant complaining of bot / cheating users has caused me and many others to leave that arena of online game play. Sadly there is a very large community based on cheating and how to exploit every little flaw, or the use of online cheats to improve their stats / rankings. I find this to be a serious issue, one that the game software developers need to really figure out how to prevent such things. This issue of cheaters should be taken as serious as copyright issues. It can very easily be the demise of online servers. I have seen good online community gaming servers be taken offline due to cheaters and complaining of such actions. I was hoping that this community would be better, but I guess even in online chess playing, there are people that all they care about is how to cheat to improve their rating. It would be nice if everyone would play fairly to improver their game based on knowledge learned, not knowledge learned on how to cheat / exploit the software.
I now wish I would have spent those years playing online shooter games to better my chess knowledge, maybe I would not suck as much as I do. We all live and learn, I hope several years down the road I am not saying the same thing about the online chess community.

eikbert, I agree, I spent a lot of time with Quake 3, and Amercia's Army, but the cheaters ruined it. I don't play any of them online anymore.

Well, we tested this and it doesn't happen. If white doesn't move and black resigns/leaves the board, the message is indeed "Black resigns" but the outcome of the action is that both players' ratings stay unchanged. Can you tell us when did the aforementioned trouble happened?

In the same vein, I think those who disonnect from a gane to avoid a loss should be considered as losing. In real life, if someone really has a bad connection, there is very little hope of continuing a disrupted game, because who knows when the two players will be logged on again at the same time and willing or able to continue the game. At the very least, count disconnected games as a loss for the disconnecter after a couple of days.

Re: "Both players ratings stay the same"
That is good news, BUT the general understanding out there is that it does affect the rating, frustrating Black. Is it possible to modify the message in this situation to indicate that the rankings have not changed?
You asked when this problem happened. It was on Oct 25 at about 17:30-18:30. I believe it was between Princejher and SIRRI.
I appreciate you checking this out. While I have your ear... is it at all possible to bring back in-square coordinates. It is most helpful for the tutorials where squares are referenced quickly and frequently. Thanks!

woodpusher:
When a player disconnects from the middle of a game, his/her opponent has the option to either wait for the player to return (for a couple minutes) or force a win. This is possible because, before the game starts, information about the game and players is saved on a server. This info is used to determine whether the disconnection was voluntary or not.
There are some rare situations when, before the start of the game, one or both players might lose the connection with that server and the info is not saved. In these situations, if one of the players disconnects, there is no way to know whether the disconnection was voluntary or not; as a result, it may happen that the game is simply dumped, without the disconnecting player losing. However, these situations are quite rare.
Mefiant:
We'll look into it. About in-square coordinates: not sure this can be done, but we'll add this to the list.
Have a nice day,
