First I try to install the game from the DVD and get a crc error message when the game is trying to extract a file from the data2.cab:
mm_sp_release
F:\disk1\data2.cab
data error (crc)
So fine, I install the multi-player version with no problems and then download the SP version from steam using the Key on the back of my manual...(fast forward several hours later).
Everything is downloaded and I have a ready message from Stream saying I can now play my game so I press launch and WHAM..now I have an mm.exe problem and I can't launch the game.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE??
Yes I'm upset, these problem should not be happening period. I've spent the better part of a day trying to get a game to run that I shouldn't have to spen more then 1/2 hour on. Computer stores won't refund your money from opened games now will they exchange it if you don't have the receipt so we are at hte mercy of the publisher and game maker. Please fix this **** soonest.

Well, who's stupid fault was it to not get a reciept..it almost sounds like your one of those people who is using the illegal version.
CRC error is a Cyclic Redundancy Check btw...
I have a suggestion to get around this.
Copy your DVD contents onto your hard drive, and install the game from there.
Otherwise, I've only ever seen this error occur with illegal copies of games...
the CRC error basically is saying that the file is corrupted.
Perhaps clean your disk (that works sometimes) or just keep trying.
I'm looking into this problem now for you, I suggest you do a search on google for Cyclic Redundancy check, or look on other forums to see if anyone has the same problem..maybe search on these forums for "CRC" or "Cyclic Redundancy Check" aswell.
BTW, what box did you get, what does it look like.

I had the receipt mind you, but tossed it not thinking I'd need it, and yes, people do throw away receipts. I buy hundreds of dollars worth of computer games and never have I had this type of problem with any of the games I buy.
The game is NOT pirated, shall I decribe the box in detail for you right down to the EBGAMES price tag on it for 49.99? Don't even semi accuse someone of piracy if you don't have a fricking clue.
I know what a CRC error is which is so frustrating since the DVD is not marred in any way shape or form.
I got past the first error by disabling the visual themes. The game started up fine, I saw the nice intro movie then it locked up on the initial loading screen. I've read that you can bypass this error by reducing textures but how do you do that with the stream sp version if you can't get to the options screen in game?
But lest you think I am a pirate I better answer your question in full. On the front flap of the box the top is white and below that is an armored monstrosity with two fangs and drool plus red eyes and uder that is in white Dark Messiah and in yellow Might and Magic. The ESRB on the box is M with PC DVD-Rom Software to the right of that and on the far right bottom corner of the front flap is the ubisoft logo and name. Convince yet or should I continue?

If your a regular at an eB Games shop they will exchange it without a receipt as long as the EB Games price sticker is still on it.
Return POS games that fail to live up to a reasonable standard of quality is why I buy all my games from EB.
Then I can take the steamly pile of orc droppings back to the shop for them to deal with it.

Uh...yeah, agreed with phoenix...just go back, say you threw away the receipt thinking that you wouldnt need it (you say "some people" I say "some idiots"..why the hell would you throw away a receipt for something so pricey..sheesh! the intelligence of some people these days).
Anyway...don't avoid my question, I am asking you what the box looks like. Actually, I'm going to make it easier for you...tell me the last word on the bottom of the box, in the 3rd paragraph of the PC configuration. This should take you about 10 seconds to do...unless of course you just so happened to throw out your box aswell, which you can't say you've done since you were about to tell me the EB price tag (which isn't exactly hard to do because maybe you have another game from EB...
I'm just seeing whether you have a legit version or not...it's very easy for someone to lie about the fact that they don't have the game..hell, I could have an illegitimate version for all you know, and nobody has questioned me...well one person did, he just plain straight up front said (exact words) "get the retail version you cheap pirate" :S
I honestly don't care if you are a pirate or not, but it helps us know whether it's an issue with the retail version or the illegal version, that's all, because if people are coming here reporting problems with the illegal version that don't have anything to do with the legal legit version, then the devs have more work to do on the patch, and thus taking longer for a patch to be released...see what i'm saying...that's why I am questioning you, because I've only ever seen this error with illegitimate copies.
Keep looking on google and stuff, I remember having this problem with an illegit cd of Unreal 2 and I went to a website a long time ago and got my problem fixed...can't remember for the life of me what I did though.
