Gamespot has a fairly evenhanded review of Uru - like a lot of us, they're taken by the idea that Uru is really two products in one, Uru Prime (every time I type that I have the urge to type "TRANSFORM and ROLL OUT!!) and UruLive. They've touched on the gorgeous sights and sounds that we're all sumptuously soaking in as of right now, and there is a brief acknowledgement of the potential that Urulive has for this product.

The nice thing about a Myst game is that generally most folks aren't offended by it - so there's really no contraversy or hyperbole to cut through. Hence Gamespot can put out a review, minus the spin. That's mostly what we have here. To judge the game on it's missing multiplayer - well, I probably would have left that part of the review open ended, but mayhaps they'll return to it in the future.

As I've said before, right now for me, Uru is an 8.5 out of 10. If Urulive delivers, they've got a solid 11 on their hands

Thanks! I was waiting for this. I would rank Uru higher myself, but in spite of the reasonably good (not great) score, I think it's a great review.

Also, there are spoilers - so if you aren't into reading puzzles spoilers, you don't want to read this. I think the spoilers are fine, but others might not.

I like Gamespot, and once again they have written a fair, informative, and accurate review. I would definitely say that this review does full justice to Uru. The only think I might have changed would be giving it a 10 for graphics

It's interesting the Gamespot reviewer points out some of the same nit-picks alot of us have had with this game.

The insight concerning the lacking multiplayer is relevant to the review of the game, but it didn't seem to hinder the overall score too much. To be truthful, until Live finally kicks off the replay value is kinda slim for the average gamer. Unless you are a big time Myst fan and enjoy soaking in the sights or hardwiring the scattered literature into the back of your brain..

A much deserved score for a pretty good game.

A Gamespot review I finally totally agree with! It's madness!

I was glad, at any rate, to see the sound criterion achieve a 10. I think this really was Uru's shining point. I have an Audigy 2 for the EAX effects and surround sound speakers; let me tell ya, Uru was the first game then never for a second let me forget I did. The aural experience was just awesome, to say nothing of the incredible graphics. As a presentation, I was nearly overwhelmed.
