Thread: Extra RAM really adviseable? | Forums

  1. #1
I have V1.1 up and running and have experienced many of the bugs reported on this and the General Discussion Forum. One aspect that I also experience is some choppiness in the game's flow, momentary music interruptions, periods of temporary lock-up (after clicking certain buttons) and seemingly long periods of load-up for selected scenarios.

Ubi recommends 2 GB of RAM. Based on what you have now experienced with SH4, would you say that 2 GB should be STRONGLY considered by all users? Could I expect it to smooth out much of the game's playability?

Thanks in advance for any guidance. My PC is running XP Pro with Dual-core, 2.2 Ghz AMD; nVidia 7800 GT (256MB); and, of course, 1 GB RAM.

I have 2 gigs, XP SP2 and have caught SH4 using close to 1.2 gigs of RAM. Depending on how much you game, I'd recommend 2 gigs.

with more demanding games comming out it would best to upgrade. Most games do not take advantage of dual core cpu's so your bottle neck would be either ram or video card. Your card is fine so it cant hurt to get more ram. Do not expect a huge performance increase. The game needs some patching. I have P4 3.06 GHZ HT cpu 2 gigs Corsair XMS low latency DDR dual channel ram and a Geforce 7800 GS Co AGP 500W PSU and I am running the game at high settings with the event camera turned off. After I patched the game to 1.1 I noticed Graphic lag after searching the forums I found that you need to edit the graphics cfg file and turn on V sync to seliminate this problem. Good luck.

Thanks, woodywilson and zy1980core, for your comments. I am moving ahead with more RAM.

Just loaded in the extra RAM and things have smoothed out noticeably. Loading of scenarios and movement between screens are quicker and the prior problem with the Captain's Log button seems to be resolved. The game & XP take up 1.4 GB in full operation.

With my 2 gigs I have some sluggish captain's log sometimes, but it sounds like you're happy with the memory bump.

    Cheers

Same story with me, I've alt tabbed out of the game to see what sh4 is doing, other than using up 1.1-1.2Gb of memory, and pegging my cpu..it's behaving. I have 2 gb of ddr2 800 ram and I'll still hit sluggish spots..mostly in the captain log screen. I found that if you change the mesages displayed from "All Messages" to "Sent Messages" you can usually get into the captains log with little or no hang at all.

Ram might help, but don't count on it if you are having problems, I have 3 gig ram and the rest of the machine meets the recommended specs, but still get low fps (8-16 or so).

The games got bigger problems than ram will fix.

Editing the CFg file did not help much. The last patch really messed the game up. It runs slower than it did before the patch. Like others said Ram can not fix bad programing.
