Thread: ...Mexico? | Forums

I am a huge fan of the Tom Clancy series, and I can't wait for Ghost Recon 3 to come out. But I have one problem; why in Dante's 8 circles of Hell is the game set in Mexico?

What I like about the Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell (besides being kickass games) is that their plots are very convincing and grounded in reality. Whenever I play them, I feel like the events in the game could happen in the near future or even in a few days.

I don't know the story of Ghost Recon 3, but the fact that it takes place in Mexico is absurd. Save for perhapes the Minutemen along the border getting overzealous, I don't see how anything could send the US and Mexico into war with each other in the near future.

And it's not like we've run out of potential hotspots to put the game in either. They could set the game in Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, or even Venezuala and it would be extremely realistic and compelling. But Mexico ?

I couldn't agree more, i beleive the premise is that mexico got ahold of some nuclear weapons codes or something like that and the ghosts need to retreive the codes when i first read the description i thought it was joke, same with the advanced warfighter...i guess i was wrong on both counts.
ubi makes me cry at night :'(

I think it's cool that it's in mexico, it gives us a break from the random out door locations, we can finally have street battles, on a massive scale. I think it's gonna be fun! I hope you can go in all of buildings and take up a sniper position in a window, that would be awesome.

Scenario: 1 room with 2 windows, 4 enemies holding up in it sniping. Some guy sneeks in close, tosses a frag, BANG! Maybe a body flies through a window (with awesome ragdoll) and lands in front of you, and it displayes 4 kills...I would be so proud of myself! Even if I was the guy being blown out the window it'd be cool to watch the ragdoll

Wouldn't it have been quicker to actually look up the plot of the game, rather than make a completely ignorant post, complaining about a plot that you know nothing about?

Mexico and the U.S. are NOT fighting each other.

The ghosts are helping fight terrorists, with the blessing of the Mexican president

I was curious about Mexico too. Does this mean we'll see friendlies from 7SFG? That'd be their area of responsibility, right? Surely 5SFG could be there but I doubt they'd run the show.

Maybe the GR guys got tired of the usual. I certainly don't think I've played a game in Mexico before.

The main reason why ubi have chosen a completely fictional story was mainly because of the crtisism the GR2 got, it was banned in South Korea as tension were bad enough with the north and the last thing they wanted was a form of enterainment that kills NK's. Even the North Korean government said something about the game not to sure what though but it was something like "its easy in a game but on the real battlefield we'll kill hundreds of thousands" - something like that. So i think they've chosen a story that will probably never happen so people won't moan.

I personally am looking forward to the story because it looks very interesting.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Let's put it this way....I live close to the U.S./Mexican border and I can tell you that the amount of people coming across the border everyday would construe an invasion in itself. There is already high tension on the border with Mexican military, Minutemen, BorderPatrol and Smugglers that they didn't need a fictional story about a possible eruption of violence......

Then what nationality are these terrorists? German?....No...they are Mexican Terrorists and seeing as how three fourths of Mexico are below the poverty line and have no means to fix that in the country with most of the nations wealth centered around Mexico City...and most of those people are corrupt then this story is as close to a farse as possible. Even "if" there was a new Mexican President who came into power and wanted to make a change in Mexico, the people that hold the power wouldnt let that happen so all of this is just a bunch of fiction...like a game....loosely based on reality.

Brain is right, unless you make up a fictitious country with fictitious governments etc... You are going to end up offending someone.

Maybe it would be a better thing to have completely made up nations, as this could offer more flexibility in terms of story lines. The topography could be more diverse, as you would not have to rely on current boundaries etc...

I personally do not think that it is a big issue, but obviously some do.
