Thread: "Jack Frost - Real Africa" - Looking for high-quality, realistic maps for server. | Forums

  1. #1
    Hi friends.

I'm really enjoying what this game has to offer. So far, my favorite aspect is that this game offers the opportunity for realistic non-military combat.

However, I'm starting to lose patience for all the sloppy, small, tunnel-shooter type custom maps out there where everyone dies and respawns every 30 seconds. I'd like some maps where strategy and thoughtful play have their place and where the layout has been carefully designed for smart play.

Can anyone recommend some quality, large, realistic maps? I'd like to setup a server exclusively for this style of gameplay.

Everyone has their thing, some people really enjoy the mazes and tunnels and constant chaos, and that's cool. I enjoy, and I think there are others, who like getting to think through their movements, explore the space, and play smart, rather than just run-and-gun...

I'm looking for maps like "Clear Cut" and "Far Cry" as opposed to "Pit Bull", "Fort Bastion" or all the crazy fort / spaceport / subway maps out there.

Please make some suggestions and I'll get a server up and running when I have 5-8 really high-quality maps.

I have a map called Township Rebellion that makes full use of the landscape available. Very high quality map that has been glitch tested (or so I hope )

The map is published be L3d_Zep. Or you can search by name.

Thanks, Zep. I'll check it out tonight and run through it. Do you mind if I make any changes if I find something that doesn't work? You'll still be credited as the original author.

I'm excited to give this experiment a try.

    Thanks, again!

I will mind if it's edited in any way. I only want one version of my map out there.

Feel free to leave feedback, as I am always open to suggestions and making alterations if it makes sense. I will say, however, it has been play tested a lot and has already made numerous adjustments based on other people's feedback. Most of what you may see on the map will be there on purpose. Check it out, it's not for everyone, but I know someone who was looking for the kind of map you specified in your original post and enjoyed the map immensely.

There is a smaller version of the map in BETA that I haven't gotten a chance to finish, but it's more action oriented...as that's the biggest complaint of the original.

Fallout v 3.5. it is a large map, a tad sci fi as it takes place in a ruined city...but you should really look at this one. its not consticted by any means, no tunnels or tight quarters. Just realistic, tension - filled combat.

Also, I havent seen many spaceport maps on PC. As foar as i know, i have one of the only ones, and its not a tunnel killbox deathtrap bulletfestival either.

You kind of sound close - minded there.

    Hey guys.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking forward to checking out your map, Zep. Haven't had a chance to yet, but no problem on not editing it. I completely understand. Thanks for contributing to the community.

Agent00kevin: I did look at Fallout 3.5 and I played it the other night. It was brilliantly executed, and felt a lot like the game Fallout3. Nice job.

I'm sorry if I sounded close-minded, that wasn't my intention. I wasn't referring to your spaceport (I hadn't seen that one) but rather to the general sci-fi feel of some maps. It's not close-minded to recognize that some people enjoy those maps, but it's not really what I myself am looking for. Some people love it, some of those maps are brilliantly designed, and their creators deserve recognition for their contribution. You in particular have contributed a ton, agent00kevin, and you are appreciated.

Myself, I really enjoy the overall "feel" of the real, war-torn, descent-into-anarchy of modern Africa that the Far Cry 2 world lends itself to particularly well. Areas that feel like something you might find in Congo or Sudan or northern Uganda. Those are the kind of maps I'm looking for.

Thanks again everyone. Let me know if you have more suggestions. I hope I can contribute in some way to keeping and expanding the FC2 online community.

I'm not sure if it's big enough for you, but I also have a map called Twin Peaks which has some nice landscaping. Not sure it's completely African, but I spent time on the "feel" of the map.

One of my largest map - LITICE Castle could meet your expectation, of maybe Golf Course...
To be honest i dont prefer 5 min looking for enemy and then be shot down by sniper, but ok, I respect that others could like that

Hey, thanks a lot for the kind words, I really did put some effort into my work, though the older stuff is less desireable now hehe.

Sorry if I was short, I actually didnt get to finish that post as I was at work.

I know of a few maps, but cant quite remember the exact names so I will get back to this thread with names. I do know a map called Castle of Dune, like maybe v2.0 now, is very large and a wonderful adventure just traveling it. nobbi is in the creator's name, but also has numbers and I dontremember them offf the top of my head.

I have a bunch of very good looking maps that were just too big to host on my server, so I will get those name for you once i get back home. (Just got to work really)

Its always nice to see someone cranking up a new server with a theme, I am hoping that this decline the game is in will level out and the game will make at least a small comeback. This sort of thing is perfect for that

I can't for the life of me remember the name of a high quality map I saw a long time ago. It was a really nice map, it was just HUGE. I'll post it if I can find it.
