Thread: time it takes for software to "think" | Forums

I'm actually running Chessmaster 9000 (on Windows XP). I typically play a computer opponent with around an 1100 rating. What surprises me is how long it takes the computer to respond on a single move. With a full-power computer and a relatively low-rating computer opponent, shouldn't the computer be able to respond in just 2 or 3 seconds? Why does it take so much longer?
