Sorry if this is a repost, but check this link out!

Corrected headline to IX instead of VII. It was the place, where I got the link, that it was written: VII, and I didn't check! Now I have checked: it's a IXC sub type according to uboat.net

Yep thats an IX. But the tour is great

There was also another site where you can make a similar tour through another u-boat but i cant remember where to find it.

"That one over there" - Oswald Boelcke pointing at Manfred von Richthofen after having been asked who of the rookies shows most of whats required to become a great fighter pilot.

I got to go through this last summer when the new display first came out (Literally like two days after it had opened). The tour was pretty bad because you have to pay to get the tour first of all (on top of museum fees)... then they have rigged the thing into an amusement ride. The tour guy tells you what happened to U-505 while red lights and noises are going off, then they move you to another compartment and the same thing happens again with more story. Also as soon as you're done in one compartment the group behind you goes in so there wasnt time to look around at all. I took as many pictures as I could with my little digital point and shoot.

Here's a link... they kind of jump around a bit but theres more than one stretch of Uboat stuff in there: Pictures

I just wish there was more time and it was treated like a war museum instead of an amusement ride. I'll be in Deutschland in August for 11 months and I'm hoping to go up to Bremerhaven and Kiel... hopefully those are better.

btw Celeon, since you don't like snow how about we exchange citizenships... You can come live in Texas... :0

I went on the actual tour. I agree with the post above me, it was more like an amusement ride. Of course, I didn't pay attention to what the lady was talking about since I knew what happened so I spent the time just looking around.

I liked how the tour was before but that was when I was a little kid so I did care about it then.

Before they moved the sub, they just gave you a tape player and sent you into the sub and you could just move along at your own pace looking at things.

Thank goodness the USS Pampanito is San Francisco is still that way. I was able to sit in the enlinsted mens mess, and just absorb things. Go at your own pace.. and if your luckey not to many folks. Very similar to visitng the bluefin at pearl as a kid.
