Thread: What about specialisation like in HoMM III | Forums

  1. #1
I wonder what y'all think about restoring the specialisation each heroes had. For exemple, Valeska were specialised in archer so after she reached lvl 3, i think, her archer and marksman had bonus Defence and Offence. Some other had 5% move movement over sea each lvl and some necroes had 5% added to their necromancy skills.

I found that these specialisation brought more diversity to the heroes (by the way this should be VERY important since we are talking about a game named ... HEROES of M and M!!!) compare to Heroes IV where it seems like all the noble, for exemple, were the same exept for their pretty or ugly faces. ( by the way: 2 tumbs up for the creation of nobility... thing that ubisoft could bring a little foward)

Now! What do YOU think about it?

I think it's a good concept and would like to see it in H5. Even though it's hard to balance.

I think they should bring that back too but with an addition of first strike and double strike of the creature in question.

That first and double strikes is a **** good idea. It could be for some creature and other could optain like magic resistance, stun ability, casting ability...

That idea may cause probleme since some creature (like fire elemental that SHOULD be immunie or have a great fire resistance) got their own caracteristics that have to be own on a permenent base.

Keep developing on this! Ubi may find those comment interesting.

It sure does have a huge amount of potential. I mean, it could make really unique heroes, which were only present in HoMM3. Especially creature specialists, as they would surely have unique backgrounds and tactics to use. I've been dreaming of a more complicated system, which would bring a lot of fun tactics to the advancing of your hero.
A direct copypaste from another forum, because I don't want to write the same thing again.

"Or perhaps the hero controlling them would get some extra skill in leading the beasts. Like, if Ignatius had controlled and Ownzorrrrd with imps since the beginning of the game, he would get special bonuses in using them. It would have been the same if he controlled trogdolytes, but not quite as big, since they are of different alignments. So if it was Dace controlling the trogs, he would get more bonuses through time than Ignatius, e.g. half as much.
There could be a special creature leading experience tree, so that every time the hero gets a level, he can choose which creatures get bonuses when he leads them, e.g. Ignatius has used imps and Cerberi for a while and cleared the area surrounding his castle of monsters and he ascends to level two. He chooses his skills and then he can choose whether to give the trogs a +1 attack and defence or the cerberi to gain +1 speed.
Hey... This might actually be a good idea... wow..."
Why? Why? Why am I not a cameo in this game?

I'm all for it. Bring back the individual personalities to the heroes. Make them smth more than just a bunch of guys differentiated from one another just by artwork & alignment. I think no storyline from H4 made somebody love a hero, as much as the specialities in H3 did.

I, for one, want hero specializations back in the worst way. My main grip about Heroes IV was that every hero was nothing more than a face and a stupid little bio. None of them were any different than the other.

Now, I fully agree that some in Heroes III were way too overpowered with their specialties (i.e. Solmyr with Chain Lightning, Deemer with Meteor Strike, etc.), but if you evened them out it would make for a much better playing experience.

Heroes specialization was great, as well as a big number of heroes to add diversity

This is definately the feature that I missed the most in Heroes4. It makes a big difference being able to have favorite and least favorite heroes for reasons other than just their picture. Especially when that reason could involve starting out with 3 times as many troglodytes as usual that can all move 1 speed faster

I would be Devil's advocate here.

No, I do not want specialities back.

Why? Really, because they make the heroes different and unbalanced. It is really annoying for me not being able to chose an avatar-hero, wich I love from the portrait/bio, just because it has a crappy speciallity.

So, unless the specialities are really well balanced; or selectable; or switchable on/off; I won't like to see them back.

EDIT: Oh, and i wanted to point, as a counterbalance maybe: I have more Favorite Heroes in Heroes II and Heroes IV than in Heroes III. Guess why? Yep, every hero I liked by looks/bio had a bad speciality, and I was not able to like much the heroes that had good especialities.

On the other hand, I am not completely opposed to specialities. Here are some options that I think could balance the "spice" of specialities and the freedom to choose the hero you want, both posted some time ago at the round table. Follow the links:

    Virtues / Vices

Different Hero Classes (Apprentices will not have specialities, While Basic might have, and Prestige will have for sure)
