Thread: SHOWW2 possibly the Greatest RTS ever created. | Forums

(For those of you who don't know, FoW is the sequal to Soldiers heroes of World War 2.)

I personally think it is the greatest Rts ever, simply due to the fact that it's a game(more of a simulation) that uses even a little bit more realism than the norm. By not including health points with numbers, or any variables for that matter, The game really immerses you. Then the addition of helpful and fun features such as direct control and the great "cover" system were very innovative. I think SHoWW2 is outstandingly better than FoW at the momment, but that can change with mods.

If you havn't played it, you should, It'll make a man out of you.

did u just compared legendary Starcraft to unbalanced arcade like DOW clone COH ?

more to that - try SHOWW2 with BTRH 1.3.1 mod for extreme realism !!!

some would argue that SHOWW2/FoW is really a RTT (tactical). there really isn't a strategy element since you have no control over pooled resources or factories, for example. you should really put Close Combat in there to properly compare apples to apples.

also, Soldiers does have health points, although it does permit headshot kills. But, once you factor in the highly compressed scale, ability to dive into any vehicle without training, and repairing engines on the fly, you realize there are sacrifices for playability. Still, Soldiers sure is FUN.

as a whole, Soldiers is up there among the greats, largely due to the mods. this game would have been long gone if not for the community. i hope Best Way fully respect that and continue the support once FoW is out.

u cant produce things you want, then the fun = 0.

some lastest RTS games have strong tatical factors, but most RTT games dont have RTS factor....

this game would be so good, if it has complete list of WW2 weapons and control over production of unit.....

    wat a pity ....

first off, tactical, and strategy are far more similar than RTM games, c&c clones are Real Time Managment games. what i am saying is there is no real tactical nor stratiegic skill to them, just managment skill. its just tech trees, resource collection, building and powerups. other than that it really doesnt matter how good your tactical or stratiegic ability is in those games, it comes down to who is the fastest and most effeicint manager, and imo they are generally lame. but i do agree that close combat is closer to fow/showw2.

Well there's Age of Empires 2, and most games like that... where you build up an army and then click to have it march over to some spot where the enemy army is. Then you watch the two run into each other and hack away. Maybe try to get some catapults in the background to pummel enemies.

For FoW you really have to manage the battles, put men in trenches, make sure they are all well armed during the fight, put those snipers off in a good spot, get the tanks first then troops, etc. So much "battle management" as I like to call it. It can be very fierce in FoW.
