Thread: IL-2 problem | Forums

  1. #1
I installed IL-2 1946 and no trouble there. I run it on Windows XP. But the only game I can run is Pacific Fighters. The opening window shows several other titles but no cursor or any other way to select them. Also, I received no 450 page plane guide. Is there anyway to go directly to the battle point without spending a lot of time following the map?My DVD case says "Entire IL2 Collection" and "All New Content". I can't get the Ace Expansion Pack.

Take a look in the bottom left-hand corner of the title screen when the game starts up - you will see a version number - what do you see?

If you do in fact have IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, which should be the name on the front of your DVD case, and it is installed, then you already have the following:

    IL-2 Forgotten Battles
    Aces Expansion Pack
    Pacific Fighters
    Pe-2 (4.05m)
    Stumoviks Over Manchuria (4.06m)
    1946 (4.07m)

All of these are included on the games DVD. There has been a free patch released, 4.08m, that you can patch to your current install. The 450 page aircraft guide you mentioned is on the games DVD as a .pdf file. There are no selecting of different sims. The opening splash screen just shows you all the sims that are already merged into one.

About the quickest way to get into battle is to use the Quick Mission Tuner or QMB. It may take a bit to learn how to set yourself up a little battle, but you should be able to figure it out. If you can't, then by all means ask for someone to walk you through it.

But the majority of missions that comes with the sim are built as war\mission scenarios and are meant to follow way points. You can however start a mission, open the map and see where it is you are supposed to attack then just forgo following any way points and head straight there. But doing this may make for some boring missions as it is a timing issue and you may reach your destination and leave before the enemy even gets there.

Also consider flying online either by finding yourself a squad to join, or, downloading Hyperlobby and flying online. Most maps in rotation on the servers at Hyperlobby are pretty quick into action. Just be mindful of the difficulty setting each server uses. Some are full switch which gives you no map icons, no plane icons. Just fly by the seat navigation using your cockpit instrumentation. Then some have these features turned on. You can read how a server has their difficulty set before joining their server. Some servers even have TeamSpeak set up for comms so you can be in real time communications with others flying on the same side so you can coordinate your attacks.
