heres the problem i bought il-2 1946 1-2 months back i installed it on my year old laptop (it uses vista) and it worked fine. today i recoveded my 8 year old desktop from the loft (it runs xp) installed it added some campaigns then went to run it it reached 5% load and went back to the desktop. i tryed it several times and it did the same thing. the specifications for the computer are as followes:
Adm Duron[tm] Processor
995 MHz,£84 MB of RAM
running Microsoft Windows XP Profesional Version 2002 Service Pack 2

No matter if you get it working, your old desktop is not capable by far to run IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 with any acceptable performance. The CPU is too slow and it does not have enough RAM.

Check that the IDE channel the DVD drive is connected to uses "DMA mode if available" and not "PIO" mode.
I'm not even asking what graphics card is in there in fear of the answer. It probably CTD's when SecuROM is started to check the DVD.

if this is the case is there any way of getting cmpaigns to work on vista i cant access mission files let alone add them.

If you installed it using this guide it should work under Vista.
