Thread: ideas for Far Cry 3 map making | Forums

  1. #1
hi in this forum I would like to discuss some ideas for far cry 3 map editor.
and for any1 who is gonna say it, I DON'T CARE if there are other posts exactly like this or w/e, i just cba 2 post it on the other ones and i cba 2 find them. :P

anyhoo on with the ideas, (your own ideas would be appreciated):

1)Have a source of water, water will always travel down the steepest path, so it would be easy to make, thus allowing the additing of downhill rivers, and waterfalls (i know u can use water pumps 2 make waterfalls but tbh it has 2 b set off and u can c the pumps sometimes).

2)Have working lights, there's working lights in the campaign, so it is already coded in so is it that hard 2 add it into the multiplayer map editor???

3)Have a block (like occlusions blocks) but solid, that is blank, but can have different skins put on it, e.g. metal fence, brick wall, etc. As using the building as brick walls can only be used if the rest of the building is hidden.

4)more train parts, I don't know about other people, but i use alot of trains in my maps, and i would like some more parts, as the fuel tank in FC2 is destroyed, and the trains are covered in graffiti.

5)Possibly have a far cry 3 campaign disk, and then a multiplayer and map editor disk, like Halo 3: ODST, this would allow greater detail and content in the map editor.

(P.S. please be gentle in your comments on how i'm being an idiot. :P)

We have lights in the editor on PC, for everything else you said, i agree, except to the 2 discs. Never use 2 discs, when it's not required. Also, for 4, in my editor mod (PC) theres a non-destroyed fuel car... That you can destroy by shooting an explosive at it.

hmm, well ur lucky having lights, but if they could add it in on xbox it'd b brilliant. And it wouldn't b 2 difficult having 2 disks, plus it means they could improve the graphics and add much more detail and quantity.

No, they couldnt add more quality with that. The performance doesnt change if you have 1 disc or 2 discs, it stays the same. It's basicly your HARDWARE- consoles run mid-low hardware. Also this PERFORMANCE is why you don't have lights on consoles, they are pretty heavy stuff, compared to most of the objects.

ahh yes, it does depend on what console etc. But if on two discs (as i have xbox 360) more data can be stored, so more quantity can be added and by quality i meant actual falling effects rather than running in midair while falling

Coding that would take a few kilobytes from the disc, nothing more REALLY. C++ = Doesnt take much space.

I think the far cry 3 map editor should have:more weather types/effects like lightning storms, snow or sand storms.water that is placeable (can make real rivers, waterfalls, even guisers,ect.). they should have lava kind of the same as water except it burns almost every thing except stone.abillity to make caves, and underground stages.maybe the game needs the ability to go prone (lie down) and still shoot and move.

theres got to be a difference i dont know the exact term but i wouldnt mind having generic lights ,ones that dont cast or calculate shadows when objects are in the light sourse. The lights that have to calculate shadows have to be more demanding. Another thing i would have is a sphere that you could toggle the size even stretch out and the erea that it takes is bright as if there were a light. if that makes any sence.
