I agree that is certainly good to have a random map generator, since it's important for some players. But, seriously, it's a matter of preference, not a make-or-break feature for the game and it never was. HoMM III is probably the best game of its kind and it would be just fine without the RMG because it had huge campaigns and a lot of stand-alone maps. Most players (not all) like hotseat and some like random maps, others do not. Personally, I can't stand them. I prefer handcrafted maps that have been playtested for balance and don't look like a dog threw up all over my screen.
However, HoMM V was very poor in this respect and VI does not seem to be an improvement. If you have just 8 maps (with 2 - 3 reserved for hotseat/multiplayer) and no RNG then that's really bad. You need to make a choice Ubisoft: either you allow Black Hole to make more standalone maps or a RMG and that's a compromise because in my book you should be doing both.
You know why there would be no RMG. It's so they can release DLC map packs for the game. Games are no longer about what value can I provide to the customer to guarantee a sale. Now it's all about how can I pretend to add value to my product while ensuring plenty of DLC to maximize profits. Welcome to Capitalism 101. You can tell these company's take their ITIL courses seriously.
Lots of games are doing this... cutting off with maps... screw capitalism...
But i agree that much more maps should be created with Random Map Generator!
RMG! Really most of the strategy games are companing only so you play it for a few days/weeks or even a whole month and finish companing..the what? ahh yes where is that unnistall button.Homm were always diffrent, you can play the game forever experiencing diffrent maps, and while you can get players maps,RMG is still is a must addition.First of all not all maps are good, and you can always see sneakpeak of it.
"Solmyr was trapped in a genie bottle for over a millennium, and was so grateful to the human who finally released him that he accidentally swore to serve the man for eternity. As fate would have it, that man is Gavin Magnus, the immortal ruler of th
Even still the RMG was one of my favorite features of the HoMM series in previous games. It would be a shame if this version did not have it.
Gotta love all the big publishers pushing for DLC these days.
I do not care so much about a random map generator. I care about a good map editor that is much easier to use than the HOMM5 editor. Map makers can produce much higher quality of maps than can a random map generator.
If you played any hoteat (in H3,H4,H5) with your friend you will see that almost all player made maps are not good and have a lots of bugs that favor one player more than other. Altho maps that came from devs are usually great and tested without any bugs...Originally posted by Elodin:

...the other problem is that you cant just make yourself a map since you will have huge advantage over your friend and you loose that little thing called exploration.
With Random Map generator noone gets preview of map and its always fresh, and you can explore unlimited nr. of maps. And if RMG is done right it could include diferent templates, army strenght, nr of players, size of maps, balance artifacts, mines etc.
Random Generated Maps are essential, and this is why, even in life, who the heck likes predictability, removes all the excitement and adventure, this game series would be truly destroyed with out one, and for those who say its not necessary, that handmade maps are better, any well built random map generator can compete if not surpass hand made maps. The disadvantage of handmade maps is that eventually they become predictable. And map packs haha, please make maps that i'll only play maybe once or twice. Haha, lets just keep playing the same maps over and over again, we'll see how long most players continue to play this game, I drop almost every game I play after I beat it because its no more fun, predictable, lacking anything new or fresh. Seriously, the most played games are the ones with unlimited replayability, I play games not because I have no life but because i'm bored, why play games that become boring after the initial excitement of something new and fresh. Its common sense people, seriously. And also simultaneous turns in multiplayer, not like heroes V, cuz seriously that was stupid, the only reason they set that up to stop simultaneous turns because of conflict is poor programming and laziness. I wanna see a good developer make a REAL game for once and actually care about more than just making a buck, seriously they got billions. Do something for the true gamers for a change. Seriously because of that aspect alone I would never buy a map pack. As far as i'm concerned, any games that release DLC or Map Packs should be free additions. I paid for a finished product, if your still building stuff for the game then it must be unfinished, right? Screw capitalism, it's crooks like those that should be hung for treason. Don't tell me you can't afford to have a team of developers continue to work on a game for years after its released and still be far ahead in profit margins, while still paying your programmers top dollar. Its truly sad the direction this country has gone.
It's pretty clear you haven't played a lot of MP HoMM3. The RMG IS the make-or-break feature of the game, it was exactly what was missing from HoMM4 or the Disciples series and it's what gave HoMM3 the longevity and huge success. As many are stating above, predictability is the most damaging problem with all multiplayer games. RMG not only solves this problem, but also adds tons of hours of extra single play. And we're talking here about a time when things like achievements or online rewards were yet to be "discovered".it's a matter of preference, not a make-or-break feature for the game and it never was. HoMM III is probably the best game of its kind and it would be just fine without the RMG because it had huge campaigns and a lot of stand-alone maps.
HoMM5 never really needed such a feature because the combat was cumbersome, the heroes were lackluster and generally everything felt slow. Campaigns were pretty solid, but there was very little appeal to the MP part. In this particular case, RMG would've been indeed no radical feature.
Now going back to MMH6, right off the bat it seems to pick up some of the speed and combat-frantic moves of the originals. The Dynasty feature is also a very interesting addition (reminds me a bit of the LoL champion system, which is a good thing) and a good playing incentive. This time around, RMG would certainly be a welcomed feature, both for SP and MP. I do hope they are considering it, even as a late patch/DLC.
