Thread: The Three Cities | Forums

  1. #1
Alright. As we know about different sources, there are three cities in this game. Acre, Damascus and Jerusalem. I've been gathering some information and links of them, that I hope that you find informing, and as what we might be having in the game. From what I have seen, and considering the realism Ubisoft is thriving for, probably most things listed here is in the game...of course I am not sure.

I guess this thread could be used as primary discussion of these cities? Unless there is a thread for that too.

    Acre

Map of Acre as it is now

Acre was the city shown in the recent X06 Presentation. It is smallest of the three cities. It is about 95 miles from Jerusalem. Acre is very important city, and in the end of Third Crusade, it became the capital of Kingdom of Jerusalem. As this game takes place during the Third Crusade (1189-1192), it can be assumed that it is under the control of Guy of Lusignan, who besieged it during 1189, in the Siege of Acre, probably the most important event of the beginning of Third Crusade. I don't know if this game takes part after Siege, or before it. Acre is also one of the most important locations of the Templar Knights, so the game should feature lot of them in there. You can see the sights of Acre from the link to Wikipedia and the map.

    Damascus

Map of Damascus as it is now

As I have counted the distances between cities, I'm pretty sure that you won't travel to city by foot or horse from any of the other cities. Currently, Damascus is the capital of Syria, and is about 136 miles from Jerusalem. From this city, we should find (they would not leave him out the game, I am sure of that) Saladin. Damascus is under his control. The city apparently has lot of walls and such, so I think it should be a climbing haven. The link again has the sights of Damascus and more information.

    Jerusalem

Map of the Old City of Jerusalem as it is now

I guess, as Jerusalem is the most important city of the three, that most of the action in the game happens here. This is also the largest city, I think. It is under the control of Muslim forces of Saladin. The most famous sights in the game will be here. There is the Tower of David (Will be fun to climb it ), The famous Western Wall which is one the most important sites of the Jewish religion, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Dome of the Rock, important locations for Muslims, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians. I think this will be the most fun and diverse city of the game.

Can't wait to see what the developers come up with these.

    The link should be fixed.

And I think all of it will be free roaming - from the demo you saw that buildings in the Acre weren't just background image, they were in 3d. And anything that extends two inches from the wall is climbable...as we saw in the demo.

Of course the cities weren't as large during then that they are now, but they are still pretty damn big.

    The bigger the better .
But as darkcrawler said, if the citys are the original size, will the land between them be so to. And if there is no land between the citys then....well.....damm it if it turns out like that!!
I want to explore the farms and villages in between to!!

But then the question will be "why?" if you start at one end of the city and your target is at the oher end, it's gona get repetitive and borring running along the roofs and streets to get wherever.

Unless of course, there are several missions that are in each city, killing different targets, different ways, different paths to take Ect, then i'd imagine it you could explore it all.

If they put the land between them (Which I s-e-r-i-o-u-s-l-y doubt), the game is going to be ******* HUGE with a big H. Largest game area ever created. Here is an comparision image I made quickly:

    If you want rough numbers...

The area would be about 3570 square miles, which would make it...

About 1/4 bigger then the country Luxembourg...

270 times as large as the playing area of GTA: San Andreas...

It would take an average racing horse 3,4 hours to go from Damascus to Jerusalem, IF it would go with full speed all the time...

...If the fastest human in the world would run at full speed all the time, it would take him 4,5 hours to run from Damascus to Jerusalem...

As cool as it would be, the time between cities would be VERY long, and this game would probably be finished in 2010 or something.

Now, what will the size of the game be IF it only includes the three cities?

The size of the three cities combined would be roughly 172 square miles, making it...

Seven times the size of GTA: San Andreas...

About 2/3 (two thirds) the size of the entire New York City...

If the aforementioned horse would want to run around that kind of area, it would take it 4,3 hours to do so...

And if the fastest human would want to do the same it would take him 5,7 hours to do so.

So, even without the areas between cities (and I believe there will be small parts of those too, like seen from the trailer) this game will be very huge.
