Thread: Saitek X52 Joystick, Throttle doesn't work in Il 2 1946 | Forums

  1. #1
    Hello:

I just bought Il2 1946 and, for some reason, my X52 throttle doesn't work with it. I've never had this problem with a flight sim and was wondering if anyone else with the Saitek X52 has had the same problem.

Also, I seem to be having a problem with the game in that it keeps locking up and making the video monitor go black. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX, is that a problem?

    1) Could you elaborate a bit more? Can you not map the throttle to any controls in Il2? Which parts don't work, the entire thing or certain functions? Does the flight stick work? (I'd imagine, though, that if the throttle didn't work with Il-2 the stick wouldn't either)

    2) Dozens of people use the 8800 with Il-2 without problems. Do you have the latest drivers? I'm not sure if it's just because I have an old card, but using the latest drivers caused my game to go psychadelic on me.

Go into the controls menu in game and scroll all the way down to the HOTAS section, click over to the right of power then move your throttle forward, that should map it. You can also set your slider and trim rotaries there as well. I recommend downloading a program called il2stick or il2 joycontrol (you can get them at www.mission4today.com), one of those programs will help you set the sensitivity for all you axis, not just the ones listed in the game input section, the trim can be a little sensitive if set on the rotaries and putting a curve on the input will help a lot.

As for you video cutting out we'll need some more details on that.

Yo, I have an X52 pro, works great in IL-2, a couple of thoughts:

Does the "profiler" icon show up in the taskbar properly? Can you right-click on it, go to "Control Panel" and ensure that the dialog box showing the sticks movement and button presses is working correctly? This makes sure that there isn't a driver problem.

Next, have you gone into the Il2 "controls setup" page within the game (where all the keystrokes are assigned), scrolled down to the "HOTAS" section at the bottom of that screen, and assigned each of the primary flight controls (Roll, pitch, yaw, throttle) to the corresponding axis on your stick? IL-2 will not automatically detect the X-52, it tires, but it gets it wrong.

    Hello Again:

Thank you for the replies. I'll try the mapping mentioned. The stick works all right. To be honest, I'm not really good at programming the X52 and have never had to map the throttle before.

Has anyone had crashing problems when using Vista like I do? Maybe it isn't the video card.

Again, thank you for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it.

It could be a number of issues causing the blank screen. What happens when it goes blank? I s the game still running? Can you hear anything? Are you able to get out of it or do you have to restart the pc? Does it happen right away or after some time? Is it random? Post a dxdiag report please.

Takes a while to get used to all the features, but once you do it's all easy as pie. Very rich, juicy pie.

The mapping worked! I have throttle now.

The game has made a liar out of me. I just played it for about 15 minutes with no problem. Last night that wouldn't have been possible. The only change I made was installing the 4.08 patch.

Again, thank you all for taking the time to respond. I was going to ask how to play online but I've bothered you all enough already.
