Thread: I like HOMMV - a lot. | Forums

    Hello to everyone.

I've just bought HOMMV plus the two expansions. I spent over 100 dollars! (I also bought the NWN expansion.) So far, I'm playing HOMMV version 1.6 without having installed the expansions yet.

I held my money and put off this purchase for a long, long time (has it been more than a year?), largely because of what I saw as a virtual flood of negative comments being made here.

First impressions - let me say, so far I LOVE this game. The graphics are breathtakingly gorgeous. The spirit of the gameplay seems to me perfectly in tune with the rest of the series.

I'm loving the 3-D effects - mountains and valleys, ability to zoom in and out and adjust the camera to my heart's desire, in close for detail appreciation, out for strategic planning. I love that I can rotate the battlefield to either traditional HOMM side to side perspective or up and down like a chessboard. I like the little cutscenes you get on the battlefield - they even show the details of the exact spot you were on in the adventure map.

As usual, the music is entrancing. I could go on and on about all the stuff I love about this game.

I wonder if my positive reactions are because I'm playing after six patches? Would I have been all disappointed and bitter like so many here if I had bought this game a year ago? If so, I'm awfully glad I waited.

For the record, I've loved all the HOMM games including HOMMIV. I wonder if the fact that I liked HOMMIV influences the fact that I like this one? They kept a similar hero progression to give it a role-playing feel, but got rid of the hated death-on-the-battlefield hero vulnerability of HOMMIV.

Anyway, I thought maybe there was a need on the forum for a thread for positive comments.

If you like the core H5 game a lot AND you also like H4 then I'd suggest getting to the expansions as I hear that they are solid improvements over the core H5 game.

    Well, no.
If you like the game and you are playing the campaign, per chance, play the campaign and the Single maps on 1.6, follow with the Hammers campaigns and the Single maps and then fire up ToE.
If you are NOT playing campaigns or single maps (I mean, if you more into playing the SO CALLED multiplayer maps, the ones you have to checkmark the box to see in single player mode), do what Alamar says and start with ToE immedistely.

Great! There is a negativity but there are also positive comments.

I like the game but can acknowledge AI flaws, it's hard not to notice after you have been playing for a while.

Corribus wrote an interesting multi-part piece chronicling his impressions. You are in his first stage, a general favorable impression. Soon you'll get to the nitty-gritty.

Be sure to check maps4heroes for many maps.
    Artificered rakshasa kshatra are awesome.

I love HOMMV as well, its an awesome game. The only issue I have ever had was its multiplayer performance under extreme conditions (huge maps and AI lockups), everything else is sweet

I should have been more clear. Once you're through with the unique content of the original H5 [campaign and possibly a few single player scenarios] then I'd move along to the expansions.

To summarize do what JJ suggested
