I can only tell you from the 1 experiance I ever had with PNY, which was actually a non experiance.
Early 2003 I was in the markett for an upgrade from my as equipped 44omxand really because I hadn't came here enough yet in my 1st incarnation on these boards and learned of useful stuff like NewEgg and Toms hardware I decided a 4600ti was the most bang I could afford and CompUSA and Best Buy both had a PNY on sale.
I was reading the box when an employee actually gave me a "psssssttt" and said"New to gaming?" I said PC gaming ya but I have fallen in love with this flight simm that I can't pronounce and my card is to slow.
He smiled at me and said put down the PNY and step away from the box. handed me a 4600ti made by BFG and said trust me dude, spend, the extra 40...so I did.
Its currently on lone to Squad mate with a card problem and he was flying a hot 800xt....he is really pleased with how good the BFG is running AEP/PF for him. I'm starting to sound like a salesman now but I just know what I've seem 1st hand. It was a very solid card for me and apperently it still is.

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every single minute of it.
The HellHounds Virtual Air Wing
and for the other side of the coin...
I'm currently playing the game using a PNY G4 Ti4600 128mb card and it is smooth sailing.
While I did have an issue getting the game to work proporly on my system, it was not vid card related at all. The friend who built my pc is planning on getting a PCI X800 card real soon and was going to sell me his AGP 9800pro. The game works so nice that I'm not in such a rush to upgrade anymore and might just spend the money elsewhere...HL2 can wait.![]()
Never had a problem with my PNY Ti4400. Nor my BFG FX5900 or ATI brand 9800 Pro. Can't say one brand is better than the other since they all worked as they should. If I had a choice, I'd go with MSI, Leadtek, Gigabyte or ASUS. But then, they don't sell those at Best Buy.
If you're not going to overclock, then any brand should be fine. The others that are not PNY or BFG may be a bit more robust in that regard.
Great experience here. I had a PNY Ti4200 64 Mb card. It was fantastic for 3 years, never game me any problem.

I have only had my PNY Verto 6800 GT for about six months and so far, it has been pretty reliable. Never gave me any problems. Still, I prefer the BFG GT/OC but could not get my hands on one at the time due to limited availability so had to settle for the PNY instead. BFG offers a lifetime warranty on their cardsand all the BFG 6800 GTs I have seen come bundled with DOOM 3(the regular 6800s have Far Cry bundled) which is an added bonus.
No wonder they are always in short supply. Otherwise, the PNYs are a good alternative.

Right after the 6800 128mb BFG OC's came out I got mine from Best Buy - $299 which included instant rebate for Doom 3 and came packaged with Far Cry. Great card!

For FYI, PNY is the only manufacturer of Quadro-based cards no matter who sells them. In short, PNY manufacturers video cards from nvidia reference cards and in some cases actually makes the reference cards from nvidia specs. Visiontek used to do this but now it is PNY's job so once PNY produces the reference cards all the other mnuafcturers base their work on that reference card so essentially PNY makes them first for everyone else.
This is also true for the consumer-based cards. The other manufacturers just add their own chips or make their own heatsink designs or changes the drivers. As you know a GPU and its capabilities are now programmable so the drivers being used changes the eway the video card performs and this is just beased on a set of parameters all of which are not implemented by a manufacturer so its mostly based on what they choose to 'turn on' or tweak.
