Thread: Mac Edition, eh? Any chance of Linux? | Forums

  1. #1
Hey I noticed this posted on the US site of HOMM 5. http://news.freeverse.com/archives/001110.php

Any company have plans of bringing HOMM 5 to Linux? I know most things for Linux are realeased under the GPU, but I think it was Quake 4 that also realeased it for Linux. (Well, you bought the windows version and then a file from their site for it to work.) Any one know if there are plans for anything like this? Just wondering.

    ~Dan~

PS: I think it's cool it's coming out for Mac.

no such thing znork... you know this...

but if we don't have a linux version, i know a lot of people who will be seriously pissed off... after all, there are two ways to get a Mac version:

    1. native version: in that case the linux version is just a compile away (we are talking about two or three hours here)
    2. using wine/cedega: in that case the linux version is already there and they just have to see it

Where do they get these stories? Let's set the facts straight. First off, there was no raping; very little pillaging and Frau Blucher popped all the eye*****. - John Cric

Count me in ... yes I will be seriously pissed off ...

Also it sucks to wait long for the Linux version. I guess H5 for windows is realesed in march ... so it would be great to have a tux conversion by June or July.

Note that I WILL NOT buy the windows version. I have a friend who will probably have one, so I can play with him hot seat , while I wait for the Linux realese.

It is never that simple, especially when it comes to gaming.

I also use linux, you most likely know about this, but there is a program called wineX that will run windows binarys on you linux box. The only problem is that it puts a hell of a lot of stress on your CPU, becasue its needs to run the game and redo the binarys at the same time. But non the less it alows you to run XP games.

That is a big problem with my athlon 1,8 ...

Also IMO H5 may not work with emulator (as it is b=very new game) ...
Furthermore beside CPU I guess that only today high-end machines would handle this h5 graphic

And yes I have run HOMMIIISoD and WoG under Wine (not WineX) ...

It is much better to go native . I mean if I wanted to use windows aps I would have used windows

Based off the Screen Shots Ive seen of the game's graphics dont look too intense. Its simple polygons for the most part, but the detail on the decals is amazing. My hat goes off to thier art team.

If you want to play games, don't run Linux. Or you can just run a free edition of the *BSD platform.. It's nearly the same as MAC, so you should be able to run it via (f.x.) FreeBSD.
