    K61,

I know I am in the wrong forum, but I am not sure if you frequent the Help forum, I would like to pick your brains if I may.

I bought a new processore AMD X2 6000+, which appears to be working fine, unfortunately when I switch on or check control panel>system it says "AMD processor unknown", it does list the correct speed in system @3.01Ghz and DXDiag shows that I have 2 CPU's installed.

My question is how do I get my motherboard & system to recognize/display the processor that I am running.

My motherboard is less than a year old (february).

The processor was installed by a friend who has built his own systems in the past, but who has now knowledge of dual core processors.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

My knowledge of the new dual core CPU's is academic, at best. I've only got the one machine with a dual core and that was a pre-built machine, not a custom build. JNorman's advice is good; consult the AMD support page as you may have to install a driver. It may seem strange to have to install a driver for a CPU, but not all boards are ready for a CPU that is newer than the board. Your system board may also need a BIOS update, so I'd also check with the board vendor.

Rugbyfan1972 - There is a driver for dual cores which forces Windows to recognise both cores and sorts out all the frequency timings etc.

I think, from memory, it's here, on the AMD Support Site and is the last download at the bottom the page.

Failing that, have a mooch about the site and I'm sure you will find it

I had to do to the very same. It's a small installation program but works effectively.
