Thread: Beta test PC ONLY | Forums

  1. #1
Downloaded the new video clip off Xbox live today and applied to beta test, but just realised they're only testing for PC. Seems Ubisoft forgotten the biggest growing consumer market for RTS and likely the future for this and many genres that were original PC only. Halo Wars and Endwars have proven that there is a market for RTS genre on console if done well.

    1. Will there be a beta for xbox ?

beta testing for consoles is less common, as beta tests on PC are generally used to try as many different PC setups and the net code for online play, they can also work on balance issues due to the number of online matches, really when there is a PC version of the game they will do all that on PC mainly as there is a lot more work and in the case of the 360 the majority of the net code is already in place by Microsoft. (Xbox Live is a closed network)

there is a chance they might do a 360 beta later but it's the PC games that need the most testing.

Ya, exept for the shallow gameplay [endwar] stiff selection/action controles [halo wars] and the attention span of a decade-old noob.

Generally people who play the Xbox exclusivly play it for the FPS's. And as one reviewer put it: "RTS players dont want to die, FPS players dont want to think."

I am curious as to where you got this information from, because as far as i can see, Ubisoft disagrees with you, many of the RTS giants disagree with you seeing as they aren't putting RTS games on the console, and Endwar was published by Ubisoft, so i imagine they have some good reasons for not doing the beta on the Xbox, most likely because they imagine that there will be a greater player base among PC gamers, and they probably have some good numbers to back that up
And i have yet to see any good argument for RTS gaming on the console seeing as the two you mentioned weren't exactly great RTS games.

So to answer your question, no there will most likely not be a beta for the console.

Endwar was Developed (Ubi Shanghai Office) AND Published by Ubisoft. It was also more geared towards the Console market with the voice commands rather then the PC like most RTS's are. As for Halowars... its cause they knew people would play it cause its Halo...

But other then that all console betas are generally FPS's like Caswallen said.

And i believe the Dev's have said that there WONT be a console beta.

uhmm.. i'm not quite sure what it is you're responding to in my post. I acknowledged that Ubisoft did the publishing, and in the end it was them that made the decision with Ruse as well after Endwar, my point being they probably made a few realisations there about Console RTS gaming and PC RTS gaming.

@Caswallawn: Not quite the case, ensuring maximum compatability with different types of computers is generally not what you are trying to ensure with betas, what you are trying to do is find bugs, test balance and fix that if fixing is needed, and nowadays, also to let it act as a demo for people to help them make a decision as to whether or not they want to buy the game when it is released.

Sorry i should have made it more clear I was just responding to the comment you made about how Ubi Published it. They not only published the game, but also developed it at their Shanghai Office. That was really It
