..then what's the best way to avoid them? Or at least.. cope with them.

I'm gonna give Far Cry 2 a new chance. So what should I do to not get extremely frustrated again about the checkpoints?

I dont know why ppl are just finding out about the guards respawn, from day one they said it was permanent part of the game that was designed in to help the game cope with the massive area.
As for what you can do...i just got creative in my driving abilities and used other transport where possible.

The only thing that really annoys me about Checkpoints is going through one just before reaching your target, then coming back the same way after completing the mission and having to deal with it again. During normal play I like the checkpoints.

The only way to avoid them completely is to walk everywhere. Most checkpoints can be snuck around.

You can use the buses of course. I usually take a bus to the nearest bus stop to my target.

For missions near the edges of the map, use a vehicle and drive along the extreme edge of the map - there are rarely checkpoints there.

Use an Assault Vehicle. They are the only viable option for longer journeys. You can deal with patrols easily with these.

With an Assault Vehicle you can drive up to an area just out of range to the checkpoint then pick off a couple of the mercs with a sniper rifle (stay near your vehicle in case the mercs get in theirs and drive towards you).

Or you can just drive through the checkpoint... running over a couple of mercs if you can. Drive to about 100 yards past the checkpoint, then stop and mount your gun to deal with any chasing vehicles.

As for firefights... I find the key is to shoot then move, whatever weapon you have. Moving around makes it harder for the enemy to pinpoint your location and you can pick them off one-by-one as they flounder about looking for you.

In act 2 in some areas you get the car with grenade launcher in top of it.Drive near the checkpoint and carpet bomb the crap out of them Be aware on some of the checkpoints they have rpg troopers and in some other they might drive too close so you have to exit the vechicle to kill them. You might also loose the car easily.
    Still its damn useful.

Or as its told , pick some of them off with dart rifle :P

I used to raid checkpoints like crazy , but cave up playing entirely because there is no kill score counter lol :P Would have aimed at least 10k kills at harder difficulty

Go play Oblivion or Fallout 3 if you want an open world full of nothing after you kill everything.

Wouldnt the game be pretty boring if you could clear out all the guards permanently?

I have heard that a lot of people hate the respawning guard points, but I only wish they respawned more slowly, or even better, narratively, by convoy or something. Spawn a combat truck or two somewhere and have it drive to the guard post.

Other than that, I like guard points, once I accepted that they are half of the point of the game.

If you find the bots very challenging find off-road ways to avoid most of them; it is supposed to be a game of looking at your map and picking a route after all. The off-roading can be challengin but fun driving too. That's what I do when I don't feel like taking on guards. Emphasize your sniper or stealth weapons allows you to sneak out of the terrain to surprise them.

Or get a combat truck and just blast through the guard post, go around the next bend and switch to your weapon and wait. If they come for you, blast the gunner first, then the driver. Otherwise you can just drive away.

I personally like picking some weapons and plotting the unfortunate demise of all the guard posts between me and my destination. Or I'll just blast up near with a combat truck and unload on the guys unfortunate enough to come out from me, then hunt the rest down. Guards used to **** me off, but now I delight in their demise...
If you haven't played a match in North-South Crossing yet, get to it! Best battles I've ever played.

    [PS3] North-South Crossing
    [PS3] Wasteland Refuge
    [PS3] High Noon

See what having an open mind brings you? Most of you complaining about this and that should learn something from people like sonadadark1.

    Well said sonadadark1.

It's only the OP who complained about spawning. Everyone else said they were a good part of the game?!

Did you read the other posts?
