    www.eset.com has an online scanner and 30-day trials of Smart Security and NOD32 AV. if that does not find your virus, nothing will.

    Here is a direct link to the online scanner

    ===============================================

    So far for the virus scare - first try the following:

    right click the task bar. select Properties.

    click Start Menu tab, Customize button, Advanced tab.

    Under Start Menu Items make sure under Control Panel at the top "Display as link" is selected,

    Check if control panel is back now.
    Good Luck!

    Ok, we need a little more information, do have have a start button? If so what happens when you hit it? Have you tried the windows key on the keyboard? Do you have a taskbar?

    Try a boot into safemode.

    its the same in safe mode, when i click the start button i get no program bar and no control panel option either only the most used menu on the left side (most used/selected programs) and pretty much nothing on the right part of the start menu.
    I cant do anything with windows at all, although i have access to the task manager (some program i found helped me do that) but that helps in no way at all.

    Run this Web-based Virus Detection.

    http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?langid=ie&v...=RHGRYDFCSGFZVDTPSOE

    It can only detect, not remove though, but atleast you know if somethings on there.

    But your sure you didnt mess with the User Account settings on Vista?
