Hi. just installed the game and applyed patch 1.1 . after i clicked to install patch 1.3 but it tells me:
"Setup has detected that you have already unisntalled a patched version of the game. in order to install this patch again, it must first be uninstalled by selecting 'Remove'. After the patch is removed, please reinstall it by starting the patch setup again."
i select remove and hit next, the confirm uninstall msgbox pops up, i click ok than another msgbox pops up "Far Cry (Patch 1.3) Error"
and the message is the following:
"Errir 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read form the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\Far Cry(Patch 1.3).msi"
i click the OK button another msgbox pops up saying:
"Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help(Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."

The only patches you need are 1.3 to play single player and the additional 1.31 and 1.33 to play multiplayer.

First uninstall patch 1.1 by clicking on the 1.1 patch installer, click remove and reapply patches starting with 1.3.

If it won't let you, then uninstall FarCry and run a registry cleaner like:

http://www.ccleaner.com/

You might want to use the ccleaner after you uninstall the 1.1 patch but before installing 1.3.


Reinstall FarCry and only the patches I listed.

Got same problem, did a fresh install try to install 1.3 says something about previous version, so i click on remove box and when it tries to remove i get error 1316. And like the first guy when click ok then it comes up with error 1603... This is really annoying as im not sure if its something wrong with my windows or farcry installs, since i did a fresh install on a diff hardrive and still says previous version.

Yeah.. I just installed farcry after about an year and im still getting the problem.. i did uninstall FC fully then reg clean and re install and patch. same problem. tried installing 1.v1 which wokred but then i still couldnt remove it (same error) or apply 1.3 on it.

What is a sticky thread, because my friend is having the same problem, I just recently bought mine and downloaded and installed all the patches no problem, he had his game for a long time, just downloaded all the patches, but the 1.3 isn't working, and if i find that stick thread maybe that can help

A "Sticky" is a thread that has been stuck to the top of the forum. Most all forums have them . In this forum they are marked at the beginning of the topic with a red "!" mark.

As for the install problems.....

There are several patches available for download. BUT you only need 1.3 for single player then 1.31 and 1.33 (on top of 1.3 in that order) for multiplayer.

If you getting errors try CCleaner but you have to check for "issues". Or try Microsoft installer cleanup utility. But after you uninstall patches you have to either do a "repair" install from the CD/DVD or uninstall the game completely and reinstall THEN the patches in the correct order (the repair install works just fine).

Just to recap...

Uninstall any installed patches.
Do a "repair" install.
Run CCleaner (or MS cleanup).
Install patch 1.3 (1.31 and 1.33 for MP).
Defrag and reboot maybe?

OR

Uninstall everything.
Run CCleaner (or MS cleanup).
Run Adaware/Spybot, antivirus check.
Defrag.
Reinstall Game.
Defrag (4 gig game ).
Install patches
Defrag (overkill )
Play
