I know when you enter a saved game you do so at the last cloth. Teledahan is my first age and I see there is a second book that takes you back about midway to the office and you can go back or ahead from there. Do all the sges have such a second book also?

Gira and Kemo have one to travel back and forth to each other without having to go back to Relto. There are also ones to travel back and forth between Kadish and the galery.

AFAICT, this is because the second book contains all the places you've been in D'ni, and the "office" that you link back and forth to is actually in D'ni, not in Teledahn.

As you go further, you'll see other places that you've seen from the city of D'ni in that second book.
