Thread: Invisible Walls; Get rid of em | Forums

  1. #1
It seems that every time i would try to climb a steep hill or a mountain, I couldn't wall farther than a set point on the road. And Most of the time, i couldn't even climb up most some of them at all. when i wanted to snipe, I had no choice but to shoot from ground level! And if I wanted to sneak into a base, sometimes, my only option was to take the road that leads straight into it.

FC2 is an open world game and i love that. But invisible walls have sort of taken that sense of freedom away during the first couple hours of playing.

In one interview, Dan said "If you see it, you can get to it". But the question is: "How close can you get to it".

Anyone had this happen to them?

All the time. Most of the time when you could actually climb a steep climb in real life you would not be alowed to do so in FC2.

That's another thing to straighten out in FC3 if you want realistic.

There are many areas in the single player game of FC2 where you swim out of the water and can't get onto low pieces of land, I do not think that it is invisible walls at all - I just think that collision detection with terrain is pretty horrific and that mostly the land (terrain) requires more smoothing.

An excellent example is on Battlefield 1942 - you can get pretty far up those cliffs/mountains, that game works really well.

Of course it happens to everypne. (except those who quit after 15 mns in the game).

As I mentioned this issue in another thread before, the invisible walls make me frustrated when I tried to climb over the mountains. They definitely must address this problem in FC3.

    Tha's a very good question.

On a related note, invisible walls in the editor would be awesome.

I imagine they could be like occlusion blocks, visible while editing but instead of blocking objects from rendering, they prevent passage for the player and other objects.

There is nothing more annoying than players jumping out of your map.
