Thread: This fixed my crash problem...so far - Thanks Burke! | Forums

  1. #1
    Special thanks to Burke who prevented my machine from being launched off of my balcony.
    This fix may not work for you but it worked for me.
    Here is my sys:
    Intel 2.8Ghz
    2G DDR
    ATI 9800XT
    Win XP SP2

    Proceed at your own peril and I hope this works for you!

    "Another possible fix.

    Go into the C:/programs/ubisoft/brothersinarms/system folder (or whereever you installed it)

    Find the bia.ini file, now open it up and do a search for:

    [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]

    Under that should be lots of settings, find the one named:

    UseHardwareTL=True
    and change it to:
    UseHardwareTL=False

    Save the file, now right click on the bia.ini, properties and write protect it > very important as otherwise the setting will be written over upon load.

    Now simply start the game in the normal way, and fingers crossed no more BSODs or random reboots."

    Just made me crash faster sorry burke, but thanx for the info.

    i did how ever notice a few more things in that file that might be worth mentioning...
    some settings i have in my game dont corrispond to what the ini had set. sense i cant play anyhow and my g-friends already vowed not to give me any for a month due to the fact im glued to this PC trying to fix my new game i might as well mess with that ini and see what happens. ill post any good or realy bad results i get(realy bad meaning worse than crashing).

    ps. im using a G-force FX card.. might find some issues with them are alot different than the ATI cards.

    I tried it and it worked, only problem was it made the game run slow and crappy. Man I hope they fix this soon, I played it for a bit and it's amazing, it's just going so slow now that it's ridiculous, even with the settings turned all the way down.....

    Didn't think this fix (which looks familiar :P jk) would be needed for the 9800 cards.

    Hope this issue is made redundant soon as forcing SW T&L adds a bit extra workload for the CPU, which ain't too good.

    /Hmmm wonder what would happen if I turn HW T&L on and turn HW Vertex off... I'll give it a go

    Techies amongst you may like to try a program called; DXTweaker which allows you to alter a great deal of things to do with T&L etc Probably won't help if it's a game bug though; which I reckon it is.
