Just before I started my 20th patrol, I shoved in ..
- TeddyBar's gradmother Mod
- Spy-Sat Mod by Paul Roszkowski (but left the map updates off)
- Radar Detection Mod by Stiebler..
This lot added to RuB1.45, with the following results.
It's like being in a candy store with Convoy sightings reported all over the place. With map updates off it's extremely difficult to track all convoys so one has to settle for 1 or 2 and track them with markers.
Over and above this 'grandmother' saw to it that I did not get near a convoy for 3 weeks as I was persistently hounded by aircraft and radar detections from my Metox - One of which I chose to ignore, but thought it better to crash-dive when the watch crew started hiding in the conn. I managed to get away with minor damages throughout the sub.
I tracked this convoy reports for 3 days and found myself close enough to intercept ( I had to conserver fuel as I was out next to Iceland), and so spent the next 26 hours purely on a hunch, and found myself ahead on 5km off it's course. I did a purely passive sonar attack (weather was @#$@#%) and sunk a small 'neutral' (that shouldn't be there - it's Sep42) and a C3 on the first round. Saved after leaving the convoy planning next attack.
New Tactics
===========
The Radar mod gives you about a minutes extra warning game time, which sounds about right. Dive to p-scope on every detection of Metox, or you will be DC'd
Grandmother make it dammmmm difficult to intercept a convoy. When you find one you must stick to it like s.h.-i-t, until torps (or anything else) prevents further attacks.
Satelite (with Map updates OFF) gives you 'all the BDU reports' on convoys, so you have to make your choice and track. It's nice in the way as it teaches you to predict (with great uncertainty) where the convoy will be going.
