Thread: Is there a place for the LMG? | Forums

I really can't find a real use for the LMG except in TH. Does anyone else have any luck with these weapons for adversarial game modes?

Because of a comment I made in a different thread, I really started thinking about this. These squad automatic weapons were designed to supress, but because of low accuracy they really don't scare anyone. Well, here's a senario to help illustrate. You're looking down a long hallway, that you just know there is someone covered at the end. Ideally you could use your trusty SAW to lay down some cover fire while your teammate advances. But here's what really happens though. You start shooting as your buddy makes his way to the end. Halfway down the hall the enemy pops out, drops your friend, then takes his time to line your head up in his crosshairs, and paints the wall with your brains. What happened? Well, the guy just didn't have the fear of god in him, he knows the LMGs can't hit anything even if it's in 1 sec bursts.

So, I came up with a few ideas. And I do realize it is a little late for any code changeing, but there's always the next time around.

    1. Make anytime you're being shot at lower your accuracy. The great part about this one is, it would work across the board for all weapons. But most people would think they're getting lag and get pissed.

    2. Lock out the abillity peak from cover while being supress. But they could just get out of cover strafe out past the corner and shoot you like before.

    3. My favorite, what I like to call the "Darwin Effect", if you poke your head around a corner while someone is suppressing it comes off. Covered or not you get to catch a stray one right between the eyes. I mean, you do have to keep the reticule in his general area.

I think anyone of these would add a lot to these matches.

What do you guys think? If you read it all.

The lmgs are useless. Their inaccuracy and high recoil, along with the smg sniping and constant grenade barrages, quickly put and end to any of my attempts to use one.

Not that I've found. I still like using them every now and then, though, just like the MAC11. Both of them (the LMGs and MAC11) are almost completely useless, but they're still fun imo.

while I agree that in general the LMG's are useless I have found one that I like on one particular map. I use the MK46 in the Church guarding hostages. I add the recoil reducing stock and away I go. It seems to shoot pretty well, especially when you zoom and double tap with it from cover. I have killed three and four guys in a row with it as they are assaulting together.

Other than this particular map and location, I think the LMG is about worthless unless you do what we did last night. I hosted, didn't restrict with the system, but everyone agreed to use LMG's, flash, and smoke only. It was a fun few games.

    See ya.

Right, if you're in a match for just LMG's.

Some say, during a gun fight the best weapon ever made is the one in your hands.

Don't get me wrong, I have done my share of killing non LMG carrying players with an LMG. But if two players of equal skill meet, one with an LMG the other with an SMG, the LMG is going down. I hate the gun dynamics in this game something fierce.

Note to self.. treat it like Halo, treat it like Halo.

I agree, LMG's are pretty useless except for story or TH mode.

Hi RoundEye, I love idea number 1 (Suppressed enemy looses accuracy). This got me thinking, so if you don't mind I would like to build on that idea a little.

While under suppressing fire, not only would you be less accurate if you popped out to take a shot, but also while behind cover your screen could shake violently and maybe become a little blurry while under fire. You wouldn't be taking any damage and the shaking and blur would clear up instantly, as soon as incoming fire stops.

I think this would make suppressing fire a viable tactic in fire fights and make being under fire a more fun and intense experience.

Anyone else have anything to add ?

Yeah, that would be nice. Didn't they do that in GRAW, but only in single player and not multiplayer?

This was a feature in Americas Army. It worked very well. It kicked in while recieving fire from any weapon, not just LMGs.

Ubisoft could learn a lot from Americas Army and Operation Flashpoint Elite. Both games had bad graphics but gameplay and realisim were very good and made up for the graphical shortfalls.
