I have been disappointed by the last 2 games in this series, Uru and Myst IV because many of the puzzles require "physical skills" such as jumping or moving things around (URU); or are time-sensitive, i.e. you have to complete s series of actions in a limited time where the controls are difficult to maneuver (Myst IV). I am an older gamer and don't seem to be nimble enough to do these puzzles (I failed manual dexterity). Before I waste money on Myst V, I would like to know if there are any puzzles of this type.
I absolutely loved Myst, Riven and Myst III and felt a sense of loss when I completed them, but I gave up on the last two.

I think there is only one in Myst 5 but you can press the shift key to 'run'.

There are two tasks I can recall offhand that are explicitly timed, wherein you must start over from the beginning if you fail to complete the objective in the time allotted, and a couple of other puzzles that have a time component, but allow you to cumulatively build progress each time you start the "timer". Speaking as someone who rather disliked the stringent dexterity requirements of a couple of Revelation's puzzles, I don't think End of Ages is nearly as demanding in that regard. Any of the puzzles that require manipulation of controls are cumulative, so your progress doesn't reset after the timer runs out... the only things that require you to start from the beginning are a couple of "point A to point B" timed events, but those are given ample time for completion (so much, in one instance, that you may actually begin to think you missed your shot), provided you understand what needs to be done.

Thank you for your replies. They are very helpful.
I would like to add a comment: I am very impressed by the intelligence and literacy of the posters in this forum. It's a pleasant change from some of the other forums I've visited.

Yes, you're right . I've also been posting on other forums, and these Mystforums are a very nice 'place to be' in comparison.

So, I'lld say: stick around for a while and enjoy!

    greetings,

Just as a word of encouragement, on the "last two", you mentioned, don't give-up on them just yet (as you shouldn't on this one). With physical limitations, the games can have some frustrations for a lot of us but take heart; most puzzles CAN be overcome with persistance and perhaps a bit of assistance from these Forums or someone in WITH you. Myst V, at least so far, for me hasn't presented a 2-handed complication, yet, as did URU in the form of "Jump". I was encouraged by a post from a "Quadriplegic" whom had advanced farther than I had, by using her/his "chin or mouth" control. As a matter of fact, they finished far earlier than I and I "pined" for their help after they had finished and "signed-off". I don't know "where" Myst V goes because I'm still in the early stages but I do know, these games are all "Do-able". Hang in there and if you feel like takin' the bull by the horns, try the last two, also. One thing I've found out; You're right; these forums are full of intelligent individuals who want to help. Even if it's a re-direct to another site. The "Moderators" here have ALWAYS been more than helpful. Never be afraid to ask. They won't slap you down. If you ARE directed to another site, go to "favorites" and "save" where both you ARE and where you are DIRECTED. Then you can correlate between. I'll most likely be asking YOU for help in the future.

Thank you once more for your words of encouragement. I will probably start the two previous games again, or continue them if I have them saved somewhere. I won't be able to buy Myst V until I can get up to the US anyway, which might be a month or two. I live in Mexico and it's hard to get newer games here. I've just about burned out on Morrowind.
Hearing about people who are really handicapped makes me feel a bit ashamed. My only excuse, apart from lack of dexterity, is I'm impatient and a little lazy.
One of the most graphically beautiful and fascinating games I ever tried was Schizm, but I couldn't get past two maze-type puzzles that had to be completed twice in succession. It took 8 -10 attempts to do the puzzle once and twice in a row seemed impossible. I was sorry I never got to see how it ended.

    Thanks.

Welcome, la.Inglesa. I've played Schizm and hated that particular puzzle the first time. The second was pure torture. My thought was that these games should have a 'puzzle completed' option for folks who can't or won't finish it on their own. It wouldn't detract from the game and if people abused it, oh well, it's no worse than playing with a walkthrough, which I don't personally, but some enjoy doing.

I think you would find Myst V quite enjoyable to play.

Hi, la.Inglesa. So you also have played Morrowind? I loved that game, I could sit and play it to four o'clock(at night). Did you become the highest leader in many of the guilds? How many Morrowind money did your Avatar earn?
