I'm sure that you have already done this, but...
I have a Netgear router & had same problems. I called their tech support about 6-7 times & finely got a guy who did online gaming himself.
He did some special settings & led me to a software add-on in the Netgear website.
now things seem to work just fine.
I think the key is...keep calling their tech suport until you get someone who knows what your trying to do & has a clue what to do..
some will help & some guys won't...keep trying...

HawgDude, I've gotta SMC router. As a result, I can't tell you exactly how to set up your router, but you need to go into the settings for the router and enable port 21000 going in and coming out. PM steve v because I stink he knows how to do it.

I gave up on my Alcatel router and bought a Draytek Vigor 2500. It has really great firmware and I can host with no problems. Highly recommended kit!

I have the same router and host all the time.
Basically you have to know your LAN IP address (192.168.1.xxx) and forward port 21000 to it.
Look at TOAD's illustration to see how your Advanced Forwarding screen should be set up...
What is happening is that the router doesn't know where on your LAN to send the packets relating to port 21000 until you tell it which computer is running FB.
Find your LAN IP address with Run Command Ipconfig
