Thread: Open beta challenges | Forums

  1. #1
With the upcoming open beta many challenges will be faced for the game and the communities.

The first one being a confusion by the new testers between the game in its current state and the final result. Most will probably take the open beta version as a demo and consider it polished. Thats a confusion that we must avoid at all cost. It will be explained everywhere, and especially through the disclaimer that you can see here : http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...3/m/5501000004

I will partially release a few betatesters of their NDA obligations, for them to advocate against the confusion, and generally explain where the game is. It will be a fine line to avoid speaking too much and as the same time help the new testers. These choice betatesters are basically the first group of the `valuable testers` from the reward list, plus Zamolxis. If you consider other testers to be mature enough to enter this task, please tell me.

I`d be glad to consider any of you in the Den to assist, of course.

Put the explanation at the starting screen of the game to let every player see it every time he runs the program...

It will be written `work in progress beta` of course, but it will not be enough.

It would be nice to have BETA HEROES V in the game screen like for the closed beta. That must be visible enough

I think the first part of the disclaimer should be written in caps and bold, that should be enough for any normal people .

Maybe give an incentive to playtest instead of just play by some sort of recognition reward to the more valuable testers . Insist in the last chance to contribute to the development of the final product.

It looks like soon it will be official - open beta is delayed. When might it start?

Have those people put “This is a beta not the game†or something else appropriate in their sigs. Make a post encouraging the rest of the community to follow suit, that way it will spread easily.

Maybe "The beta is not the demo". 'Cause thechnically speaking it is a game.

There's a way to create a widget for the forum: basically, everyone who logs onto the forum that has it will have a small window (cfr. the quick reply window) with a text of your choosing pop up. It's cookie based so it only happens the first time after you sign in with your account after he widget's been activated. Could be of some use I suppose - no one's ever had that happen before so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just click it away without readin what it says (provided the text is not too long and signed with "Fabrice" )

Which is why I specified THE game, IOW: ‘not the finished version of the game.’ Though I do concede that my original phrasing was a bit ambiguous, it was only meant as an example.
