What if their is no medium to long distance shooting in the game. Then there is no call for single rate of fire.

The devs could use that excuse.

Going by the demo mission....there is plenty of medium range shooting

Makes about as much sense as not having squad commands in a Ghost Recon game.

(edit) Actually Conviction didn't have fire select, so why would this? They took most of the features from Conviction. and why would Special Ops soldiers NOT want to spray and pray?

Well... that is nice.

But does that mean that YOU can switch the rate of fire, or does the GAME do it for you?

It's hard to tell, but I think he's actually doing that on his own by tapping the trigger quickly. On one shot he messes up and fires off a two round burst.
