Well, you can certainly try but, I don't think that you'll get very far. Derek Smart, the guy who created the game, is an eccentric individual. He's pretty protective with his code and he might beat you like a Coke Machine.

Battlecruiser started out back in the days of DOS with BC 3K. Followed by Battlecruiser Millenium. Followed by Universal Combat. Followed by a growing list of titles that are slowly eroding the original design idea into crap. But that's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary. RTFM is definitely a prerequisite for playing the sim. Derek recently released version 2.0 of Universal Combat with upgraded graphics. But it's still the same sim under the hood. It's still fun to play once you're familiar with the interface and how everything works. UCCE is to be the last in the series.

Well i have to admit now after 16+ hours in universal that it is just not what i want lol....I have not giving up on it, but my idea is in many aspects not ralatet to that game...

It would be fun to work on my original idea, and im all in to share ideas etc....

Werry basic is my idea to take the SH code, put it in space use the same game structure, interfaces and just be in space instead of earth lol...

most of my ideas is in original topic

"My favorite spacesim would be this.

    Silenthunter in space.

Those who knows the series, also know the subcommander addon that alows for some real crew manegement.

Think of it. the game style is the same. Instead of upgrades based on year, it will be based on experience and the missions you run.

The same kind of upgrades, weapons, hull, engine powerpacks etc. The game should use the same kind of interface. The same kind of damedge module and have an advanced crew manegement.

You have to get home to refit, make big repairs.

Cooperaive online game, or full blown campaign online. a few races, some different ship types, career mode, fighter, fighter bomber or heawy support etc...

well....i would love something like that....

    space sim + RP
    +
    online campagn...

    lol
    TBear

    PS. kinda like this

    Space hunter

Uboat style space simulator with advanced crew manegent (silent hunter series)

In the galactic war, the capital spaceships are the muscles. This led to rethink the hunter killer role. a new type of ship class was made. the space hunter class. This medium class vessel had the capability to strike while using advanced cloaking. They can be detectet, and they have to choose there targets or they will be blown up.

This ship type was made to engage convoys or to make strikes on specific targets. A fleet have bigger and better vessels, but this ship class gave a re birth to the combat style of the ancient submarines.

You will be the captain of one such vessel. Use the interfaces to spot, calculate and engage targets. When you are climping in rank, you will get new posts, that will give you choises for diffrent types of space hunters. Upgrade your ship as you want to have it, to give your style of hunting the maximal chanse.

assign officers and petty officers. promote or remove ranks. train your crew for the needs of your ship. Give medals and eave for those who have been loyal and those earned it.

Replace crew, replace officers, you are in charge, your ship your crew.

Rename all ship members, custom make your entire crew for your liking.

space hunter class "trident" (pure hunter killer"sub style")

Space hunter class "nova" (bigger ship with capability to strike large ship classes, more firepower but larger chanse of detection)

Space hunter class " dwarf" (heawy support ship. lots of firepower, but after revealing its position it have lost the "silence" aspact and become a fleet ship.)

    kinda crew idea

space hunter class "trident" (pure hunter killer"sub style")

    CREW!
    officers

    captain 1

    navigation 1 (XO)
    weapon 1
    sensor 1
    medical 1
    engine 1

    maximum module crew
    navigation 8+2 ( 2 petty officers)
    weapon 10 +2 (2 petty officers)
    sensor 10+3 ( 3 petty officers)
    medical 10+2 ( 2 petty officers)
    engine 10+2 ( 2 petty officers)

    1`st wach crew
    59

    2`nd wach crew
    59

    total
    96 fleet kadets
    22 petty officers
    6 officers

    small weapons

    2 dual acceleration cannons
    1 small
    1 medium

    main weapons

    6 energy wasp torpedo launchers

se what happens. "my" game is being made, no need for further talk....just read

    The GCV-KnightBlade

The next evolution in starship command resumes (yeah, we started it awhile back but put it on hold to do AAW in the interim) full development in July 2009. Smaller (you only get to command one cap ship, not twenty-seven) than our previous space games, but better and with one thing you’ve all been waiting for. To exist in full first person mode inside a massive starship, populated with over one hundred NPC personnel you can interact with – and hurtling through space at warp speed.

Sit at the con and bark out orders to your NPC crew of officers. Run into engineering and find out what the heck is going on with the jump engines while your ship is being pounded outside and can’t make a getaway. Dash into Medibay for a medkit boost. Go to the launch pad, enter a fighter and engage in tactical space or planetary combat with your NPC fighter pilots. Do battle alongside your NPC marines as your ship gets boarded by hostiles. Drop launch on planets alongside your NPC team with vehicles and wielding weapons of mass destruction for the welcoming party. Full NLP based dialog trees for interaction with your personnel. Seek out strange new worlds. And…do stuff.

All the things you could do before in our previous space games – from a 2D interface – you will be able to do in full first person mode and in vastly superior game and graphics engines.

i rest my case and will await knightblade lol....

BC 3000 could have been the coolest space sim ever. But Derek Smart spent (and spends) more time trying to prove his intellect (which is considerable) is bigger than his ego (which is infinite) and gets nowhere in the end.

"Some ships are designed to sink… others require our assistance."
"We shall never forget that it was our submarines that held the lines against the enemy while our fleets replaced losses and repaired
