Thread: German nuclear sub? | Forums

  1. #1
The other week when I went out to the gun show and bought my first k98 I met a very interesting individual. He was selling a large collection of original WW2 photos.

We got talking about the photos and he asked if I had heard of the German Nuclear sub which was caught off of Newfoundland. Obviously I said no. So he went on and started telling me that the Germans had indeed gained nuclear power, and incorporated it into a sub.

Now at the time I dident believe a word he was saying. But then he showed me an interesting picture. It was in black and white and it showed 3 Canadian soldiers pointing their rifles at what looks like man who's blind folded and wearing a Kriegsmarine Uniform, I can't tell what his rank is, nor if he is an officer or enlisted man.

He told me that the entire crew of the Sub was executed after being interogated. The Sub was aparantley caught on the surface, off the coast of Newfoundland by a RCAF patrol plane.

So...should I be believing this story? Or should I be sending this story off to Crackpottheories.com?

crackpottheorıe.com is the answer. germans were close to developing an atomic bomb.. but a nuclear submarine at the time makes captain nemo sound more realistic.

Well this is how I look at it.

Even though the Germans heavy water plants were destroyed in Norway, and their atomic research facilities targeted time and time again. They still had friends in Sweden, and Spain.

Both countries were obviously pro-Germany during the war, and it's not impossible that German used the countries as a staging point for some of it's research and possible production.

Sweden, Spain and Switzerland were no more pro-German than we were pro-British. Rather difficult to remain neutral when both sides secretly want to invade you.
And none of these nations had any fission power research facilities either. Simply impossible.

Nice, I have a Mauser "Obendorff" .22 Sporting rifle, approx. 1935, model 410B with 'mini
    K98' action.... beautiful.

Only trouble is, with the draconian new gun laws in South Africa, my best bet is probably just to destroy it.

I had dinner with 2 Capetown politicians a few years back. They were worse that the apartied guys, IMO.
I suggest you immigrate, I definitely would!!

I have a CZ-452V in 22LR. It is made with the mini Mauser action as well. I had a MAS-45 in 22LR. Those were Mauser training rifles made in a factory set up in France by Mauser and the French added a magazine well for a 5RND clip for their traning rifle after the war. Sold it and wish I hadn’t. Still have 3 magazine for it but it is a hard gun to find. Great actions.
Too bad you could not get that out of the country somehow (legally, of course)

German scientist could have given Hitler the bomb before us but they had the sense to know what a demon he was.
One said “That maniac would actually use this and will not have Germany be the one to unleash this on the world.â€Â

Thanks for that, we all know that is our job!!! LOL

As each scientist came to the other’s conclusions, they would realize what was up and agree with the last a bomb would have to be too big to transport and it was nuclear energy where the promise was to be had.
It is Ironic that some of the material “234†was turned over to us by a U-Boat (U-235) after Germany surrendered and used in the bombs against Japan.
The U-Boat was on its way to Japan to deliver it.
    We completed their mission!!!!

    Crackpot.

Germany didn't even have the bomb. It had a programme but it was far behind the allies.

Why would a nuclear sub be found on the surface? Even for oxygen they would only need a snorkle.

What proof does he have. A picture of a guy in uniform. So? I have been to the moon! See I have pictures of my cat in what looks like my living room.

Germany never came close to having a bomb. The German scientist had the sense to make sure of that.
That is not to critize those in the US as they would have no reason to believe there were men of conscience where there was a regime that had none.

    Congratulations on your K98k.

Is it an original or new made one ?

I squezed in a few shots at the firing range with mine a few weeks ago.

Took me a lot of time to repair it.

About this nuclear sub thing : I never heard of that.

Logically it cant be true because a working nuclear drive is a more complex thing than a working nuclear detonation device.

About this a-bomb thing i would advise to read this article.

Germanys nuclear program was behind ,but not so far behind the manhattan project as assumed.

Without Heisenbergs research to the fill the gaps of the manhattan project and the captured uranium oxid aboard U-234 Oppenheimer would had needed additional 6 to 12 months to complete the trinity bomb.

Some people believe that Heisenberg delayed the development of the german a-bomb because during his research he realized what horrific weapon it would become as soon as it is finished.

A fact Oppenheimer first realized after the detonation of the trinity device.
