Has Ubisoft discontinued multiplayer support for the original IL2? I click on play at ubi.com, and it shows page cannot be displayed.

    Try that.
I just looked, 14 people logged on now, for IL2 (original version).
    Good luck.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946. However your computer should be much better than the original IL2 requirements to play that version.

    Minimum requirements:
    1Ghz CPU
    512MB RAM
    Graphic card with 64MB
    4GB Disk Space

I would say you need at least to double those requirements (except disc space), to play the game.

I easy match and quadrouple those anyway. What version of IL2 original are people using, every person I ask on Hyperlobby says a different one. Also where can I buy 1946 on its own in the UK? Thanks.

Patch order for the entire game series.

For IL2 Sturmovik original, latest version is v1.2 or v1.2ov (they're compatible online, only difference is the latter allows users to edit the AI pilot voice files).

For Forgotten Battles latest patch is 1.22 but you'll very rarely see it online.
For Forgotten Battles + Ace expansion you'll want 2.04

For Pacific Fighters installed as a standalone you'll want 4.04

For Pacific Fighters installed as an add-on to Forgotten Battles/AEP you'll want 4.08m which includes 3 pay for download only add-ons.

The simplest path to get to the most recent (and popular) version is buy the IL2 1946 complete version on DVD (v4.07m, available in reputable game stores across UK I believe) and then get the one remaining patch (4.08m) to bring you up to date. If you're lucky you may even get a DVD with 4.08m already added, some of the recent production are doing that I believe.

Thanks for the help. I worked out on Amazon I could buy the three packs for £7 new, so they should be arriving in a couple of days. I'll use the pacth order you gave Tully. Thanks.

Describe exactly what you ordered, because something doesn't sound right here. What you need is a single pack: IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, then there is a patch to download.

The highest you can patch that will 4.04m, which is fine if you just want to fly offline, as it's getting more and more difficult to find 4.04m servers online. There still are a few.

Most people online are using 4.08. In order to get from 4.04m to 4.08, you would have to buy three more paid add-ons, 4.05, 4.06, and 4.07 (assuming you could actually find them). That's why everyone suggested you just buy the IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 DVD, which has everything on a single disk, except for one patch to download.
