Thread: Radio and Realism in the Simulation. | Forums

  1. #1
This is my hope: I hope Silent Hunter V will simulate more realistically the function of radio communication; for example- reports back to Bdu, realistic orders from Bdu, coordination with wolfpacks, the impact of code-breaking, and historical campaigns where the historical impact of a compromised enigma is felt in the game.
And my second hope, though even more important, is the fulfilment of integration of command structure, wherein the Captain is not saddled with minutia- but gives orders to the appropriate officer which is passed along to the crew.
I am very excited about these possibilities.

    Awesome idea

In the game options, make it to where you can select to use the Enigma to decode radio messages.

Enigma that would be asome i really like to be bizzy when the boot is running his course
it would be awsome 2 if you could listen to ship traffic chatter or morse code
but im not sure how realistic that would be
did ships used there radio in convoy ?
or was there radio silents ?
i would also be a nice feature if whe could send messages in morse code
it could be a nice way to learn this old skil
and preserve it for the next generations this way
if the game is on the market like sh4 special editon in the tin box
it would be a nice item to make a usb morse key signer for sh5

You should repost this in the Q&A thread so GKane can see it.

    Sehr Geehrt Kameraden!

I have spent a bit of time on Enigma and have saved a set of monthly settings from Sep 1939 until May 1945. I have also recreated the Enigma templates, and pretty much worked out the procedure for creating the messages. I have not bothered with double encipherment, but from the manuals, I have come up with a workable system and protocols that seem to replicate the original.

There are a variety of Enigma machines available, free, on line, and as far as I am aware, they should work with each other, but I cannot be certain.

I warn you, however, it does consume a fair bit of time to encipher and decipher messages, and one slip will mess up the whole message.

It would be hard but the game is long enough to learn it while the boot is running it,s course.

There should off course be the possibilty to let the decoding be handled by the radio officer or mayby he might assist in giving hints or correcting little errors.
and hopefully gradually whe can learn the skill, they say it works faster then smsmessages
Besides it doesn,t have to be in enigma code at first
i might be possible to get it updated or even do a exam online
to get to a higher level
    would really love it

    Great idea!

They should put a cypher machine in the command room so you can code stuff

A simple Enigmadecoder would be great
I played a lot of silenthunter 4 and mostly i try to play in real time, so i have a lot of time on my hand i woulde be nice to spend a great deal of time training for this.

And there might be other duties that whe could think of to spend time on route to our targets
even a card game would be a nice idea with pinup card of course

Me and 3 m8`s kinda wantet to make wolfpacks and attack a convoy, with coms but as real as we could get it "kinda"

We got a morse program and talked by that. Short messages only, but it was great fun. Abit unrealistic, but better than using vent or TS...

In SH5 we have talked doing it again if it have a good MP mode
