Thread: Survivors in 1.5 | Forums

I had just finished clearing out an American task force in KB58 near Christmas Island when I got a navigation map update indicating a nearby survivor. I was a short distance away, so proceeded on the surface to the survivor's position.

Though it only took about two minutes realtime to get to the indicated position, I was unable to locate the survivor. I started following the slow drift course North and found two empty life rafts, but no other signs.

I eventually gave up visually searching and requested a scout plane from Surabaya and surprisingly, the scout plane accurately reported the survivor location once they were in the area.

When I reached the survivor, they were bobbing in the water without a raft, and without smoke.

In Version 1.3 we had difficulty locating drifting survivors, but we were able to submerge and detect via SONAR.

In Version 1.4 we lost the ability to detect via SONAR but we were given red smoke to help visually locate survivors.

In Version 1.5 it appears we've lost both the SONAR and the red smoke.

Other than calling for scout planes, has anyone found another means of locating drifting survivors?

Can you actually pick up survivors? I've never tried. I always thought the rescue button was for friendlies, which I've never found :P

It was a "friendly" survivor which I thought was curious because I hadn't had either friendly vessels or friendly aircraft in the area at all until I requested the scout plane from Surbaya.

No idea where the survivors came from, but it looked as if the scout plane spotted three different survivors.

Drift indicators all pointed north, but it seemed that they were all actually drifting southwest.

You can only pick up surviving friendly pilots I believe. I have yet to do this.

You cannot save Japanese survivors. You can only save Allied Surviviors.

To do this....view the survivor through binoculars at close range..about a few 100 yards...when the crosshair in the binos goes red as you centre on the survivor you then click on the lifebelt icon on the..er..taskbar... and the survivor will dissapear with text telling you that the pilot has been rescued.

I initialy tried to save a Japanese Pilot like this but had to leave the poor soul bobbing up and down in the middle of Celebes Sea. I felt sorry for him...no...honest..and I wish it had been coded in to do it...

well sharks got to eat I spose

Indeed that would be quite cool.
Unfortunately you can sink their rafts but not save them.
