Thread: Will we ever see bloom as optional? | Forums

So what do you guys think? Will we ever see bloom as an optional setting? Personally, I hate it. Having a slight blur on everything does not equal good graphics as far as I'm concerned. I guess it does take a game with somewhat higher than mediocre graphics and try to make it look a bit more up to date, but I'd rather not have it at all.

But until <b style="color:black;background-color:#a0ffff">UBI[/b] fixes the important stuff like choppy intro videos, we'll just have to wait and see if they ever get to minor things like this...

I couldn???t agree with you more on the Bloom effects and blur, it???s the worst implementation I have ever seen in a game. It???s at the point where it???s starting to hurt my eyes after playing for a while. I can???t imagine why <b style="color:black;background-color:#a0ffff">UBI[/b] even thought this was a good idea just blurring the graphics. To me it looks like they are trying to hide the bad graphics. I???ve been looking at the scripts and seeing if there???s a way to edit and disable the effects but so far I can seem to lock it down. These are the .hlsl files.

The blur effect on my opinion does make the game look nicer, but only at high resolutions. But since not many of us can pull that off, the blur has to come off

The blur was put in to help hide the jaggies since AA is not supported. I agree it is a little overdone and there should be an option to disable it.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

    Aye.

Bloom, blur, and overdone HDR in some spots helps hide the low quality textures.

I wish you could turn alot of that stuff off.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

If you are willing to spend that much for one of those AGP cards, you could get the PCI-e version of the card and a socket 754 motherboard with PCI-e for roughly the same price.

A quick check of newegg shows that you could get a 7900gs for $175 and socket 754 boards can be had for $40-$80.

I upgraded my AMD 3200+ to an AMD 4600+ X2 (dual core) a while back. The X2 is really good, and I'm happy with it (socket 939).

Then came along this ******ed Shader Model 3 only title called Splinter Cell: Double Agent. I thought, F**k that, I'm not upgrading my ATI X800 for that. I'm happy with the games I play with my CPU, ATI X800 XL 256 and 1 Gig OCZ DDR400.

Then a couple weeks before R6Vegas came along I saw that it was only to support the dreaded SM3 so I found a guy that would trade his BFG 7800 GS OC 256 meg for my ATI Radeon X800 XL + $100 bucks .

    I've been happy ever since

That's what I went through to avoid the dreaded Win XP reinstall ... hopefully it helps you out.

You have 2 Gigs OCZ 400 DRR too ... which is cool.
