Thread: Problem starting Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions of WWII | Forums

  1. #1
    Hi guys!

I've got a problem when trying to start BA2: SM WWII.

I start the program and it tells me to update so I do but then nothing happens...

If I try again the same thing happens. If I say that I don't want to update it just closes.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I have exactly the same problem. I'm loading from a CD bought in a shop. I've tried it on my laptop which has Vista, and my Desktop which has Windows 7.

    Any help appreciated.

Can you first list your full PC specs in Detail, or post a DXDIAG ? And I presume you are playing BA2:Secret Missions ?

Hi, I have the same problem here.
I just see a sort of an updating window for a fraction of a second, then nothing happens.

I have win 7 64 bit with i5 750, gtx 460, 4 Gb ram and that should be all.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hello Gabelach,

Can you cancel and Abort the update process ?

And have you also first tried playing/running the Game under 'Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode', and as an ADMIN ? Just see if **** this helps you or not ?

But when you do the above, also look under the Compatibility TAB, and check and tick these 2 options 'Disable Desktop Composition', and 'Disable Visual themes'. Now click on this .exe and run the Game. First make a Shortcut of the Game's executable i.e. BA2.exe.

Or, you can also try this Method. This may sound a bit odd, but it works sometimes under Vista OS though. It helps overcome any Start-up Crash:

    1. First Install the FULL game.

    2. COPY The Entire game FOLDER, from where it is installed, to some other Location on your Hard drive, or Computer.

    3. Now, Un-install BA2 completely from Windows Control Panel.

    4. After that, Go to the folder where you have copied this game before, Open it, and look for the BIN folder, & Search for the 'BA2.exe' file, and click on it to play the Game.

I've restarted the computer. Now there still is that update window, but when I abort the process the game starts. That's no big issue, I'll keep it this way.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hey Gabelach

There is a way to bypass the auto-updater. You will find two executable files for the game in the game's program file. You can create a shortcut of the one that is not connected to the updater.

You can also manually update the game by going to http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/In...tab=download&dcId=63 and downloading and installing patch v1.01. If you have the latest update it will bypass the updater.

I am new to this stuff but, thank you KingDaniel0, I tried everything to get rid of the update problem, I tried your copying to a different place procedure, and now the game works, thanks for the input.
